    If you want to carry your right sponson through the turn would it help to move your engine to the right or left of your transom.

    Moving the motor a few inches one way or another might keep the right sponson up but the solution to turning excessively on the right sponson is usually a little bit more complex.

    Ideally, a hydro should turn smoothly with the fin about half way in the water and the right chine firmly "locked in". Too much fin or not enough fin or the right rear corner either skipping over the water or catching and releasing will all cause the right sponson to drop and catch as well.

    It is a balancing act.

    Simply because it is easier, I would play with turn fins first. A lot of times the right sponson drops or "catches" becuse there is too much or too little side fin.

    You want enough side fin to keep the fin 50% to 75% in the water in mid pack conditions, but not so much that it drags the nose down. The shape of the fin is important too. Some boats like a squarer shape fin, others more of a swept back style.

    If you feel the side fin is OK then start looking at the right rear chine. There are way too many different ways to tweak a right rear chine for me to go into here. This is where you ask a builder to watch your boat and ask for a recommendation.

    Of course, some boats just never seem to figure out how to turn smoothly.

    All of this is assuming the driver is driving smoothly. I see alot of drivers overdriving the boat. By overdriving I mean they are not making smooth and slow easy turns. They often "saw" at the wheel, double grip, take lines that are pin to pin, or make other jerky body movements that cause the boat not to be smooth.

    It may seen obvious to say, but how can the boat turn smoothly if the driver is not driving smoothly?
