  • C stock set up issues

My Sorensen C stock hydro does not seem to be getting enough lift sponsons seem to be dragging and catching My Y 302 is set 3/4 below the bottom and 1/8 kicked out any ideas for this rookie to help me get the boat stable at speed
    Thanks

Are you sure about that kickout measurement?

In 30+ years of racing, I've never had a hydro set up kicked out. There should be enogh lift in the boat that you should be kicking in or at worst parallel.

Next question, are you moving your body toward the back of the boat when you're at full throttle? How much do you weigh? How much does the boat weigh?

A proper CSH should have no problem getting the sponsons out of the water at top speed.

Inaddition to the questions above how fast are you going has alot to do with the aero and hydrodynamic lift?

        Kick in Kick Out

Do you have an Alan Brown checker? or how are you checking the prop shaft angle?

I run my DSH kicked out on 1 mile and shorter courses....

Remember when measuring, be consistent. Always measure in 12" incriminates when measuring the tuck/kick-out; 1/8 tuck over 8" is different than 1/8 tuck over 12". The math also works out when using 12" increments so you can start calculating degrees in respect to the bottom and/or true bottom. Food for thought.

Sorensen kit or actually one of Darrels?

If the boat is built right, you will have to hit 60's for the aerodynamics to start working.

"Kicked out" and "Hydro" never belong in the same sentence (edit: unless your a Guedo)

hmm. May need to look at the setup process first. The 3/4" should be measured from the center tip of the propshaft to the bottom of the boat. When starting out, it's good to have the motor even, or a bit kicked in.

If your not getting to 60+mph, it may not be a boat issue. Maybe something as simple as a head gasket, a carb adjustment, or the wrong prop.

PS: as for the kicked out "rule of thumbreaker", we set the 3/4 mile record in 20ss kicked out, and no, I've never told Guedo that story....

We have a Sorenson CSH and it is so stable we even use it in the Novice class. Make sure the skid fin is aligned with the airtrap. I would also set the height at 3/4 with a 1/8 kicked in. Also make sure your steering is not to loose. This caused my first swim.

do you have a steering wheel hub extension? The Yelm CSH's are running in the high 60's!! If you have to "kick it out" more than 1/8", there is something wrong!!!! I have never kicked out my CSH's any more than 1/16 and have a little more weight on me than you do!!!

has your lower unit been shaped and blueprinted?
