I would also add the more torque the motor makes the stiffer pitch prop you could pull over the same distance, thus go faster in a shorter distance, torque is more important than HP when you have no shifting gearbox.

Just test smart, all the formulas in the world are useless unless you test-as the saying goes (its all theory till you put in on the track)

Once there is motion there is time, torque and time = horsepower, not torque alone

get the books out and check the definitions again

I remember learning this, wasnt an SAE horsepower [1] a distance, [how far?] that a horse [whos horse?] cold pull a long ton [2200lbs?] in 1 min? I dont even know where the book is right now. & isnt SAE out dated?

You can't get............

I think we all understand you can't get one without the other.* Sometimes people get all wrapped up in HP but forget torque can be used as an advantage also.* My F-250 is a good example or torque over HP.* An example of where torque may be used as an advantage is a runabout vs a hydro, a runabout may take more advantage of a motor with more torque because it has more drag and more torque off the corner would help it where a hydro has less drag and still would bennefit but the runabout could use it more.

As they say in drag racing torque gets the ET and HP gives the speed!

PS: Of course Torque here is dependent on time.
