  • trailer electrical problem.

Has anyone ever FRIED the plug on their trailer?? I checked the wiring for a bare wire short, all the coating on the wire is good, no evidence of shorting at the lights, and the ground looks good, the wire is brittle up about 6" up from the plug, the plug on the van got warm and is a little melted, this trailer was wired in June this year. Both plugs hang down about a foot from the tailpipe, would the exhaust from the van do this??? also I drove in heavy rain shower for about 30 miles, Just hoping someone might have a answer before I replace the plug and try to drive to Dayton.
    Thanks

Also all the lights still work.

If the lights still work I would lean towards the plug was blown up next to the exhaust while cruising down the road, if it was melted from a short it wouldn't/shouldn't work at all.

      Yep, I'd guess exhaust heat . . .

Sorta looks like the plug on my old Dakota after the kid forgot to loop it up after disconnect. Dragging on the pavement for a hundred or so miles kinda ate it up . . .

Hard to say with out doing a test on the plug. Typically if there's a short the wire coating will get a little soft as well. My guess would be the heat from the exhaust.

Im thinkin if the exhaust enters the pipe at maybe 1000 degrees, how much will it cool having run thru a pipe thats up to operating temp. Id bet it would melt that, No tellin where the wind placed the plug in transit.
