just wondering if konnie gears say 12/15 ratio or??? would stand up to the v-rude and some big props????

Would seem so
Konny and other 500/700 PRO Motors: 180/200Plus HP @12/13K RPM, 2 firing impulses per revolution of either 250 or 350 CC's. (two cyls fire together)
V-RUDE 60CI: HP??, three 350CC cyls firing impulses each revolution. It was always my understanding that the closer to 1 to 1 you were the harder on the gears because they were meshing the same teeth more often, rather than spreading it out over more teeth during the life of the gears. If true it would seem the 12/15 would be better to spread the wear out, and might be as fast if you could prop it right. Little more forgiving if you aren't right on with the props also.
Talk to some of the guys that run them under the 500/700 PRO motors like Litzell, Hall, Thrilby, etc. Litzel and Hall sell them also.

Looks like your cat knocked it off the bench. Also looks like one Rex Hall had back in the late 60's. If you know him well ask him about it and what happened when he was trying to put it back together. On second thought he might have put it out of his mind. I seem to remember reading something just the other day, maybe on BRF, that a 3 cyl OMC has a downthrust on the crank while running?? If so maybe this translates to thrust on the pinion and prop shaft gears, an shortens the life?
Some years ago Stan Leavendusky Sr. I believe, knew someone that made gears. He was thinking about casting some lower unit housings and building lower units. He contacted the person and told him the size the gears needed to be and the HP and RPM they would operate at. The guy just laughed and told him he was dreaming if he thought gears the size they would need to be to fit in a lower unit would ever last under that kind of HP and RPM. Konig units are worn out. Some early Konny units had casting issues.
I believe that Bill's premise is correct reagrding the gears. One can also purchase Konny, Rossi and VRP 12:15's and 14:15"s. Perhaps others.David Weaver

I am curious as to the length of your drive shaft,
and are you using a 'torsion' shaft , as Bass recommends. Were these cases also modified from the UIM pattern to the larger gear lube volume, so as to keep temps down?
I have not run as much as you have, but have had no trouble with my 14:15,.... "yet".
The 14:15 is the strongest configuration.

BUT..................**** thing DOES NOT like being ran with the prop shaft 1/2" below the bottom of the boat..........at about 75MPH, it starts lifting the tail of the boat and makes it VERY hard to drive! Jacked her up to 1/4 (in MOD) and is WAY better and more controllable to drive!!!!!!!!
so.......for all those people saying running the BASS unit deep presents no problems on a hydro...............I say BULL****!!!!!Daren
