Question for anyone running the Merc 15. This weekend we noticed one of the powerhead bolts snapped at the head, 2 were loose, one fallen out and another broken.
Has anyone else had this happen? Bolts were torqued, and red loctite used.
Then, after we bolted it back together, we noticed you can push the power head a good inch back and fourth, another motor did the same thing. While you can push it, the gear case tilts sideways as well. We figured this might have led to the bolt issue, so, is this the way it is supposed to be? It has the BTM kit in it, nylon motor mounts, and it had BTM power head bolts.
I have ordered grade 8 air craft bolts and studs, with safety wire holes in them. Why does this engine not have the safety wire requirement that the OMC does?
