  • 1957 B konig lower unit.

    hi everyone,i just brought a 1957 B konig lower unit from a racer recently.i was about to tear it apart to change all the bearing and oil seal.do anyone one here know the correct method to seperate the pinion from the driveshaft.or maybe it require a special tools.any tips and advises will be very much appriciate.best regard Mr Lo.

    If this "LINKS" unit is still OEM, and many are not after 30 + years of use, then pull the prop shaft and gear out, flush all oil out of the case, let the pinion shaft drop down as far as it will into the case, shine a flash lite in there, and reach in with a long narrow screw driver and if it is still OEM then you will find a steel cup [like a welders cap] that sits on the top shoulder of the pinion gear.
    Pop that cup up, and you will see a small steel pin , which was being retained by the cup. The pin should be a sliding fit, so push it out. The pinion gear is now free to come off the shaft, but you may have to clamp the shaft in a vice and push the case with the gear off the shaft .
    Thats how u would do it in '57, but god knows whats in there now.

      another great guy

      another great guy that who can provide accurate informantion.with the guide,finally i have pull everthing out of the housing.it seems all the bearing is oem. so definately i will replace with the new one.i believe the hard part is when it come the reasymble the pinion and the driveshaft.do i needs a special tool to hold the pinion when we do the reasymble? thank Brian Henrick
