  • Setting up Y-302 with a fuel pump?

I'm setting up a CSR to run in a marathon, and I am going to be adding larger gas tank(s) in the boat. So can anyone tell me what the best way to add a fuel pump. Crankcase driven or electric? what are the manufactures and model numbers? whats the best way to connect the tank(s). Any input is appreciated.

    Thanks Paul

Paul, the best and maybe easiest way to do it, is to buy the kit BTM sells..............crankcase driven. Or, you can use the OMC fuel pump and mount it on the boss (and drill the center hole for the pulse) that the 302 "mysteriously" has already cast into the crankcase half.........

Use the BTM kit. Mine has worked flawless!

        Fuel System Options for 302!

I'm still using the older method of a Mikuni Pump and feeding the on-board tank with an additional return line back to the boat tank(s). It works very well, but does mean a lot of extra stuff....looks a little like a distillery on top of an already tall engine. I would like to hear a little about the BTM kit. Is it able to function without a return line?
I know I finished Top'O last year with plenty of fuel, so I'm thinking it may be a way to clean up the set-up, cut a small amount of weight. Anyone have any comments? KampKurz

you still have to use a return line with the BTM kit, same as the OMC setup...........

I use quick disconnect on the return and supply hoses, so that when you remove the engine from the boat, you just hooked them together and eliminate fuel leaking all over......I also use the small OMC pump, but believe others have use the larger ones with some mods (reduce spring pressure?). Brent Backus knows ........

Can the BTM fuel pump be used on the Y80? Since there is no mystery cast location for the hole where would the pulse hole be drilled for that application and would the engine need to be pulled apart to drill that hole? Is there another way to get the pulse without taking the engine apart?

            Thanks

yep, it fits the 80 also. Just pull off the front intake and you can gather up any aluminum shavings you might get from drilling and tapping the hole .........

Sounds easy. Any suggestions where the hole should be drilled?

                Thanks

easy as pie! Just pull the intake and verify a good spot to drill and tap (1/8 pipe tap) that clears the carb shield when installed................usually closer to the rear of the front case and about a 1/3 of the way up from the bottom........

Thanks so much for the help, looks like BTM is the way to go. But if I were to use the OMC pump, is it as reliable as the BTM system and where can I get the other parts to make the system.

                      Thanks

How about the BMT and the 102? how to keep shavings out of motor? and does BMT take away any horse power from engine.

Split the case.....Jim I would not drill the case w/out splitting it!

Since the stock rules for the 20ssh and CSH allow for removal of the gravity fuel tank and use of a fuel pump, I assume that drilling and tapping of the case for the fuel pump pulse is legal in stock racing, am I correct?

                              Thanks
