  • coils for a yamato 102

I know this is a very crazy question but, does anyone have a 102 coil that they could get rid of ? It is much needed. My motor has a crazy miss at about 6100 rpms. I have tried everything from points to plug wires to plugs and even trouble shot my fuel system and changed the head gasket. It runs great for the first minute after that it starts breaking down and sputters on top end. I really think it is a coil getting hot and breaking down, has anyone else had this problem or anything like it?

You need to find another Yamato driver and swap his mag for yours. Put it on same place and take a run. Then you will know asap if it is mag for sure. Check your spark plug caps. I have had the screw on ones get lose and cause what you are describing. Cut off the ends and re screw the cap back on. Set your points at 18 thousand and move your mag to 250 on a dial indicater. Lock it down there and set the other side to match. Mikey

that symptom is the sign of a failing coil for sure. I have had the same problems in the past and it was the coil.

as you know, NEW ones are not available, so good luck in finding a "good" used one..........

          New 102 Coil Request

Can you tell which 102 ignition coil is bad? Have you tested both of them on a coil test bench (most outboard marine repair shops have a coil tester)? I may have a brand new coil to sell you if it will work for you. PM or email me with the part info when you find out which coil it is (there are two different configurations for the wire lead.)
