  • Stator Wiring?

I'm in need of some help, My 25ss stator (CDI ignition with the CDI box with aluminum case around it) was lose, The long rivets that were pressed in to hold the two stators to the plate were worn and it was lose and it touched the flywheel very slightly. I sent it out to a great machinist and had the rivets machined out and bolts replaced where the rivets were. I'm not sure if the stator wires are wired correctly. There's a ground, and one stator wire connects to the other. I had spark on both cylinders and now when I got the stator back I only have one cylinder firing. Anyone have a wiring diagram or stator on hand for wiring pattern? Or a stator? I really want to get my boat in the water, this will be it's first run! Thanks

    Hey Shawn!

I sent you my extra CDI box the other day. Get it yet? I also have a stator, I think, if you need it. You might want to try posting on John Kwast's site. Your ignition system is the same as from a merc 200, so some guys there might know a thing or two. Scott Smith tends to know a lot about those motors, so you might try him too.

      Stator Wiring

I've seen early Merc CD stator coils with green or blue wires paired with white & red. Green more common. The coil with the short white wire- white goes to screw that holds the terminal block to the stator frame(ground). The green or blue wire from same coil goes to the backside of the terminal post on the junction block closest to that coil (RH when looking straight at it). The green or blue wire of the other coil also goes to the backside of the same post. The red wire from the other coil (should be the only one left) goes to the backside of the left terminal post by itself. Connect the red wire from the switchbox to the post having the red wire behind it & the same goes for the green wire from the switchbox. Connect it to the post with the green or blue wires behind it. Should work! Have seen where swapping the brown & white trigger wires (ie- connect white to brown & brown to white) if only 1 cyl. still has spark after stator is wired. Something to do with flywheel polarity & position, etc. etc. etc. If now 2 cyl's spark but backwards of firing order, just swap coil wires top & bottom. Switchbox wont know the difference. Good luck!

thanks for the info. It turns out one of the wires broke inside the insulator of the wire from vibration right where it goes into the stator, Happened to me on another outboard with phelon coils (hot rod) Engine runs great!
