  • throttle cable help!!!!

hey wassup peeps,,,i just purchased an ss45 engine for my mini v-hull that i built,,i was

wondering what kind of throttle cable to use ,,,,or theirs a special kind,,,and

another question,,,how do you guys think the ss45 would run on my v-bottom

boat,,just a question to those guys who know that they are designed for the

    sst45 boat..

(here is a link to my vids running a 25hp on her back) http://www.youtube.com/user/blackjuice007

I would think it should use standard OMC throttle cable. You may have different transom height requirements. From the looks of the video the boat seems to have all it can handle with a 25 hp motor and could be overpowered with the 45SS motor. Good luck and be careful.

You can use the stock OMC cable all you need is the wire with nothing on the end. I'd keep the metal on the outside of the cable because it helps to lock it in in the 45 clamp
I do hope you are going to use a foot throttle and not a hand control?
I've herd of other people trying to use a 45 on a V bottom. I'd like a bigger blade than what you can put on a 45. I do hope you are going to use some kind of trim system too?

Very true if that is only a 25 on that boat now a 45 will make it wicked crazy. Its all fun and games till you hit the water....hard. Hope you have a decent helmet and life jacket for your fun and safety. I'm all for the speed and excitement just hate to see someone getting hurt.

Holy Fishpaste! I gotta agree. You are going to be WAAAAAYYYY overpowered with a 45SS and that hull! If I were in your shoes, I would be... leaving! No. (Sorry for the Animal House reference.) I would be trying to trim out what you have so you're not porpoising so much, and get a smoother ride. Whatever you do, for heaven's sake please don't skimp on your safety!

question,,,for these engines,,,can i change the foot so i can run a bigger blade,,,or i have to leave it this way without any other modifications?

              Engine Change ?

From what I see in the video, stick with the 25 on this boat. I would say that a 45SS would be grossly overpowering this boat.

                Safety First

                Viboatman,

Remember Safety First. Always wear a helmet and life jacket.

The boat is too short for a 45 motor. Find an older SST 45 tunnel boat and run the 45 on it. Or, get some SST 45 plans and build your own boat. Sounds like you like to build boats.

Maybe you could ask on this web site for someone to help you with plans. I know they are out there.

Do you have a "Racing" 45 motor with the racing gear foot?

If the water conditions are typical in the video, a tunnel boat will be better.

Your boat is too short for a 45 motor. That's why it "hops". Remember a 45 motor is twice the horse power of your 25 hp.

I myself am just getting into 45.

                Good Luck.

                    SST 45 Speeds

A typical race preparred SST45 will run between 70 and 80 mph. Depending on the course length and propeller selection.

I am just getting into this class. I will start racing next year. The remainder of this year will be used for learning how to drive these boats.

                    Good Luck.

                      Another Question

                      Viboatman,

Your 45 motor looks really cherry. It looks like it has not been used much.

Where did you find it? And, what did you pay for it?

Remember, this motor is at least twice the horsepower as your 25 motor.

Your boat is very short for this motor. Remember the throttle works both ways. Gradually build up the speed and be careful.

Consider after you run this set up, to get some SST 45 plans and build a tunnel boat. Safer, faster and all that and more.
