  • OMC A lower unit info

Looking for a breakdown illistration for a OMC A foot. I'm resealing one for the first time and want to make sure everything is in its proper place. It just didn't seem right that a thrust bearing was running against the cage of a needle bearing. Maybe missing a washer?
    Thanks John

    Ok

John - Yes the brg. does ride against it. I have attached some pics. I can scan and post an illistration this evening when I get home from work.

The pics don't show the impeller in place. I shim and adjust with the impeller out then install it later.

      Tom:

Could you post the name and brand and perhaps where you get the correct sealer for the gearfoot again? I thought our seaping issue was licked, then at Long Beach this weekend while polishing the foot, I saw a little bit coming from the center of the case....

          Thanks

Thank you Tom. I just thought there should have been a washer for the thrust bearing to ride against. I was told something about glueing on the impeller. Is this something to reduce the spline wear?

An alternative sold at NAPA stores. Same as OMC Gel Seal.

I have found red loctite used on the brass brg. support up front helps seal the water pump cavity from the gearcase area. I have not had luck using gel-seal on that part as it tends to leak past it. If you have gearoil leaking from your water pick-up holes this can be the cause or a bad seal behind the impeller.

Should I glue the impeller in place.
Yes it will help stop wear on the shaft splines. Some use silicone and others use JB weld epoxy to secure the impeller to the shaft.
