  • OMC A motors

The explosion our motor had blew the reeds into the combustion chamber and cracked the Boyesons.

So, new questions for those who have advice.

For AXS/A class, which do you feel run better? I have NOS reeds, stops, etc, but would have to order Boyesons.

We tried both in J class, and thought the Boyesons worked a little better.

    So, any advice please?

    Thanks

    reeds

Several of us had this conversation last weekend in Frostproof. The general consensus was that Boyeson "R" reeds might not perform quite as well as metal but the "R" reeds don't trash the motor when they come apart. I don't know how much of a performance difference there really is, if any, but I like the idea of not trashing a motor when the reeds come apart.

Joey's new K-Pro powerhead is getting the Boyeson reeds just for the reason of saving money when there is a failure.

      trashed motor

This motor had about 5 hours of testing and 4 heats of racing on it....I totally agree about Boyeson vs OEM from that respect.... The question then might be better phrased as, would there be a noticable difference from one reed to the other, and, assuming the OEM reeds had decent quality control, what would the typical racing lifespan be and what would the likelihood of inhaling one be?

I know in service engines, it was a very rare thing to ever see a reed sucked in. During the OMC flower pedal style reed days, it was uncommon to see them walk sideways and leave small gaps open in the reed plate, which caused all kinds of performance issues, but that's about it, they never, well rarely ever broke.
