  • J merc Kit parts.

    As the rule for J conversion of the Merc 9.9-15 stands now you MUST use the Kit APBA sells. The parts are not available for purchase individually, you are required to by a complete kit if you need to replace any conversion part. The only parts that would affect the performance of the motor are the carb restrictor plate and the gear housing adaptor plate ( it has an exhaust pasage in it). I have asked Ernie Dawes to bring this up at the national meeting . I would like to be able to purchase parts individualy from outside vendors or make my own, and still have the motor legal for competition. Ken Hall (aka CHOPS )has worked with Alan Brown on a steering bar and has made throttle linkage that is much simpler than the APBA parts. The adaptor plate specs could be published and I am sure a vendor would CNC this part. The driveshaft could be made from a Merc stock shaft. I know Gary Pond has shafts made for OMC motors, perhaps he would do the same for the Merc. With the availability of new motors you can by a complete set up, but for the do it your selfer like me, the choices are limited.       Shawn the driveshaft has to come from a long shaft motor as does the water tube. The knoch for the stock water pump is ground out right where the splines go on the short shaft motors. The restrictor plate is a stock factory Mercury part. It would be nice to be able to use the 25XS throttle hookup. The steering arms are standard Alan Brown arms and are the same for all his bars. He has the plate pattern that bolts to the tower as I gave him one of mine to make the patterns over a year ago. All the kit pieces on the first kits had a J and a number stamped on them and all the newer kits have no numbers. I asked Eddy if it was leagle to solder the stock butter fly because you couldnt get the full one seperate from the kit and he said it was legal to do.

        Hey Shawn, did you get that golf ball out of the garden hose? If you're still having the problem, I'll fly up there after I get back from skiing in Colorado and help you out. Send an airline ticket. I'll also bring a bottle of Vitalis if they still make it.. Jack

              Bill its page 28 and has to do with the steering bars and throttle linkage.

                I have a complete conversion kit that I would see for a good price. Comes w/ a kick-out bracket as well.
