I'm looking for a 55h D tower. If it's missing pieces or needs welding, thats OK. I'm trying to put together a budget D stock rig to run this season in the northeast.
Bob Montoya may have one laying around. Not sure how to get in touch with him as he bounce back and forth from Florida to Washington state. We sold him a few complete a few years back for a project he was doing to try to build some cheep motors to get people started in racing. Someone on here may be able to give you contact info.
Not hard to find a tower and clamps, but a good lower unit that will hold up under racing conditions is going to go for $1000+. if it were not for this, a 'cheap' 'D' motor would be a possibility. One solution that folks seem to miss is that Yamato l/u;s and parts are available , and economical, and are an easy adaptation to the D tower, and with a nose kit, probably a superior lower unit. This simple change would make a D stock motor a reality for $1000 or less. IMHO.[but who asked me!]
Brian Hendrick, #66 F "the harder we try, the worser it gets"
For the lower unit I have gears (new) and a waterpump (new), and have located a propshaft and driveshaft. I can get a new tailcone bearing carrier and nut, so that only really leaves the gearcase itself- which I have yet to make a deal on...
Item #290077502697 on EBay is a Q tower which is, I beleive, 2" taller than an H tower, which is 2" taller than a 44xs tower. I'm looking for an H tower so I only have to add 2" to the top of the shorter transom.
