I got tired of bending aircraft clevis pins, so I switched to OMC drive pins. Never, ever sheard an OMC pin in A, 25 or C...ever.
324690 are 1 & 3/16" but cost $1 more retail than the 307949 which are 1 &3/8" long. I cut them down to fit my prop hub.

Dowel pins work fantastic, I used then in D stock for many many years and never broke one. They are hardened and can be drawn down by heating them up to a light straw color and letting them air cool. They then become very malleable with great shear strength. If you don't heat them they will snap when you tighten the prop nut.

Saving $1.50 for risking a $200 propshaft or a $400 prop seems foolish to me.

An idea would be to get several dowel pins and cut them with a hack saw, if they are hardened they would be difficult to cut. Just an idea.

They have 3/16 x 1" pins at the hardware store for $1 a piece they are hardened though.

We would use 3/16 stainless steel welding rod cut to size.

Ive used the airccraft clevis pins for 15yrs now on everything from stock Yamatos to 850mods with no problems ever...

We lost a 2d place in AXH due to a broken pin last spring. We ordered these and only use them once in AX and reuse them once in J.

McMaster-Carr sells 0.187" diameter Music Wire in 12 inch lengths (5 per pack). This is the best shear pin material I've found. We use it in the 750 Mod hydro (@14:15 ratio) in 5mm (0.197") shear pin holes without any failures. Better than NAS bolts even. Cuts easily with 'new' 24 t hacksaw blades.

Depends on how rough the race. We reuse on the 500MH and occasionally reuse on the 750 MH. They do take a bit of a set (bend). But they are cheap enough to use once and pitch.
Still using the aircraft rivets on the A stuff.
With the NAS bolts we replaced each heat. We run these pins two heats (750) and only have to tighten the nut occasionally.

We used dowel pins in our K-Pro OMC's with no problems. Made a mistake one time and used one in our 175ccH, no problem there either.
