I think the SORC has just what you are looking for. Jeff Brewster might be the perfect person to start talking to.

          D stock

Darren is correct. I have a brand new, still in the crate Tohatsu D motor in my shop. As of right now there is a pretty good chance it's sold....Steven Armsfield (aussie steve) has indicated he is interested in it and is contacting Jeff Brewster about it. Alex Polikopf has them in stock...not sure of price. D stock in region ten is going to see more racers next year...Tm Fihn (my former teamate) is coming back, Ron Magnuson has my backup D rig, Glenn Wasenko has indicated he is pretty serious about getting one. D is a different animal then most stock classes.....the power to weight ratio is amazing, and they handle so much better then C stock....I can say with confidence that all of the D drivers in region ten respect each other out on the race course...there is very little chopping off etc like what goes in in C and 20 and OSY etc. Darren has some really cool nationals in boat video...and I have some testing video from Soap Lake if you want to get an idea as to what driving one of these things is like. If i can find link I will post it. Dave

                        New motor

I picked up my DSH today !! So what has to be done to the tohatsu if I have to buy a new one or do they come race ready? I heard you have to do some welding and stuff to make ready. I'm still looking for a used tohatsu if anyone knows of a good one . Thanks

                          dsh

If u buy a new one u just have to have the top journal welded. Nothing else. Aside from adding gear lube to lower unit.....

when I got my tohatsu the center pin on the crank was welded, true and weld cost me $65, Break in is key on these motors, all the info is in the paperwork which I think you can download the pdf file from APBA.

                              Tohatsu

I have found, like all race motors, a few minor issues with the Tohatsu D motor. As far as construction goes they are almost bulletproof. The rods are well made, bearings are top notch, you get the idea. My first motor, which now belongs to Ron Magnuson, had a few things done to it. I had just the top journal welded. My second motor was purchased from Ric Keller...it ran identical speeds with first motor....and it had the second journal only welded. I took a bad hop at Eatonville...lower unit came out of the water at full throttle etc. I found after that that I had lost quite a lot of speed. Had Steve Benson mic everything out....the crank was all twisted out of shape...nothing he can't fix. I wonder if new Tohatsu owners should have all three journals tack welded? Just curious. Dave
