    Bill

You would know best other than Ralph.

I have never seen a Desilva with open combines
All the one's I've seen have about 4 ovals cut in them
    On each side

well, about the time the Transom height was lowered from 12 inches and the open front cockpit was deleted. They changed to a more "alky" looking boat

        Collectors Boat

This virgin DeSilva resides in Mark Suters collection. Never raced, never in the water. You can see what Tim is talking about in his post on this hull.

Wow Nice boat. What is the number? Notice the rub rails. When I started building a few boats I found a lumber yard "Spar Lumber" who had these Oak 6 foot stock. I thought Geez those chine bangers guys will get a surprise when they play Chine bumping.

So when did they go from that style to the flat deck ones with the "D" cut out on either side of the transom?

                    Did you ever consider

Did you ever consider that stock marathon boats where not built the same as the alky boats? Brinkman had a Desilva B marathon boat and I do not remember there being extentions out the back with holes in them. There had to be a way to get the tanks under the decks so there would be acces for that. Could be a copy but most likely a Desilva marathon boat, also remember that stock runabouts used to have a dimension for tansom height at the deck, the pro boats did not or it was alot smaller.

No, didn't consider any of that. I assumed based off other boat makers of the era that stock and alky boats would be similar. Was unaware that Desilva was making completely different style boats for stock and alky. It appeared from pictures that if the wrecked hull was (and it seems the general consensus is that it is) a Desilva, that it was a much older style. Oh well.

In those days Stock boats had mid ship depth measurement. Also a transom height measurement of 12 inches. DeSilva's built the cockpit wider also. Why I really don't know maybe room to put in a tank for marathon. My boat was just like Coon's boat. Funny story A guy use to call DeSilva's a lot from Ironwood. Used to talk about how Hurley and what a big wide open town it was.
