  • Cut Resistant Socks: Do they work?

Ryan Johnson took a direct hit to his foot last weekend after falling out of his OSY400.

As you can see from this photo, his shoe was sliced both on the sole, and on the top, where a portion of the toe area is missing.

What you do not see in this photo is Ryan's foot, or any stray pieces thereof. This is because Ryan was wearing Tuff-n-Lite Cut Socks from Security Race Products.

Ryan's foot was not touched by the propeller. Ryan's Cut Socks came through the crash without any damage to them, either. The shoe was not as fortunate.

Is your foot protection this good? Think about it.

Thank you, Ryan for racing safe with us.

Just wondering if his foot was hit by a prop or some other nasty part of the boat. Oh and yes I own two pair of the socks . Thanks for sharing.

I sliced a very small piece of my finger, the pad or finger print off of one of my fingers in Dunnville crashing a D hydro.... all I can say, is I wear the socks, but didn't have gloves on and could have saved a trip to the ambulance if I had them on I came out of the water 2' from my own prop and went up hands first, I think I caught it when coming up!!! Motor was off, thank you kill switch.

        Socks

Those who don't have socks should invest. Having been hit by a propeller in the foot, The same weekend i was hit was the first time i had seen the socks as Region 3 racers had just returned from the the west coast and had a pair. I was wearing leather boots as many other racers do but if i had the socks I believe i would have only had a nice bruise on my foot instead of missing a chunk and being on crutches for 4 months. Thanks for these Pat and Security, I'm actually going to be ordering a new pair for next season.
Just go order the socks and the gloves!

What do you all recommend for shoes? For both male and female drivers. Thanks!

Speaking from an EMS perspective, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

You might survive a prop hit but you will loose time from work and recreational activities from a severe injury.

When you can prevent such an injury from happening or minimize the damage done especially with such an inexpensive but invaluable piece of equipment, you'd be foolish not to own a pair. to quote Nike's slogan "Just Do It!"
