  • Marine Corps pilot looking to buy BSR or CSR

I am interested in getting involved with racing. I am in the Marine Corps and stationed in North Carolina. I won't be able to race all the time due to work, but I would love to get out when I can. I grew up in Michigan watching my Dad race and always wanted to do it. My ultimate goal is to get up to race the Top O when I am not deployed. Any information or contact information would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Mike

    boat for sale

Mike...thanks for your interest in what I consider to be a great sport. Have you checked out the A/B Austin runabout hull for sale in the "for sale" section? Also within that thread there is a post for a B Hotrod to clamp on the back of the Austin. Then go race it in the Top O. You will have a ball.

Welcome aboard Mike, Where in North Carolina are you stationed? There is probably someone nearby that can be of assistance. Post your location and phone number. I am sure someone will be in touch

MV-22 - Are you stationed at Cherry Point? I work ARFF at Coastal Carolina and love watching the Ospreys when they cruise in from Cherry Point to practice touch & gos.

Quite a few racers on the coast. In my burg, New Bern, there is John Runne, builder of fast hydros and runabouts, and a racer experienced in C class and B class Hot Rods.

Top O? did you say Top O? Oh yes Devil Dog; Anytime you wanna come up and run Top O, you let me know. From one jarhead to another, I’ll get you a rig to run. I defiantly got a C rig for you. I’m pretty sure I could get you a B rig too.

                Active Duty & Racing....

It can be done; our Sargent Major asked during field day inspection, "what kind of outboards are those hanging on the end of you rack?"

My response, "American Hot Rod". Since Sargent Major was a huge bass fisherman & hot boat guy, I never had an issue with time off to race unless deployed.

I have a Good, fast Desilva for sale, discounted to $1000 complete. It is set up for a 302 and as I live in Nor4th central GA, am not to far from you so I'm sure we could work out delivery. I'd also advise you on set6 up and a good vprop that would work well on this boat. Unfortionately, I sold my 302 to a racer in Maine. Send me a email at address below and I'll reply with pix and descriptions. Jon K Walters walters@plantationcable.net

                        Bill-

I am stationed at New River and live in Hampstead. I would love to pick your brain and see where there are a few races that I could make this year. Is there a good time to call? I have been flying a lot of nights, but another pilot and I would love to get some good information.

                        Thanks,

                        Mike

I was a Phrog pilot before I switched to the MV-22, so I have a soft spot in my heart for the might Battle Phrog. It will be difficult getting to a ton of races, but if I can find the gear I can find the time. I got Mama's blessing, so I guess that's the first step.

I grew up watching my Dad run that race and have a lot of family up north, so I have always wanted to run it. I grew up on those lakes and rivers and now I have decided that I want to race them. Be careful what you say because I may show up on your door step in a few months looking for a ride. I appreciate the help.
