  • FIELD OF WAKES Update

As of last week, FIELD OF WAKES had already outsold Dust Bowl Roostertails (the 2010 book). Thank you for your support! Initial reviews have been very positive.

One of the new things about FIELD OF WAKES this year is the ability to expand a single photo across two pages, which really brings out the drama of the sport...you can see this in the two-page spread of the start of the C Stock Hydro Finals.

From the Forward of the book:

"So, what’s the big deal about Nationals? Aside from the rule structures that allow bonus points to National Championship winners, a significant part of winning a National High Point Championship, put simply, Nationals is the place you go to race The Very Best in your class. It’s a chance for drivers to test their equipment and skills against a defending champion, up to three divisional champions, and an elite handful of racers who are fast enough to qualify for the final heats by their performance in elimination races. Boats are fast, competition is keen. Driving is tough and quarters are close. It’s a chance for racers to drive against racers they haven’t competed against before. Teenagers with four or five years of experience run head-to-head with drivers who have raced for over forty years. Old friendships and rivalries are renewed. Stories of Nationals past are told and retold, frequently with the boats going faster, the drivers driving harder, and the margins of victories growing in size each time they are retold.

In short, The Nationals is the home of the best boat racing on the planet for about one week."

    This Week's excerpt

Another one of the best races at Wakefield was 500cc (C Mod) Hydro, where Daniel Koschka stormed a field of C Mod heavy hitters with a convincing win. Dan tells it like this:

"Our week at Wakefield didn’t get off to a great start when we realized during testing that our tower housing and chamber bracket had cracked. Fearing that we would lose the gearbox and propeller, we were ready to throw in the towel and put the engine away for the week. Fortunately, our good friend Cliff Johnson had a spare housing, and we had just enough time to adapt our parts to make the second test session on Monday. The hard work clearly paid off when I won both the elimination heats as well as the finals. Winning this Nationals was a milestone for my dad and me because of the competitiveness of the 500 mod hydro class as well as this being our first national championship in this class. Thanks to everyone who made Wakefield 2011 a race to remember."

Our photo from the book this week is the two-page spread of the start of the final heat...just look at some entries in this field.
