New reproduction Merc A/B/C 1:1 gear sets

Reproductions made with Mercury's permission, according to Mercury print, by Mercury gear supplier. All dimensions, heat treating, shot peening, etc. done to exact specifications. The gears have been certified. Thoroughly checked by Ron Thomas, the Foot Doctor, and given 2 thumbs up. $280 per set, plus $5 for packaging and USPS.

No, sorry. These are the smaller version for A/B/C quickies. If there is enough interest in D gears, I might try reproducting those in the future.

I'd bet that there is more demand for 1:1 D gears than 1:1 A/B/C gears.

Racers currently running 1:1 in A/B/C lower units? I'm the only one I know of.
There are a lot of racers currently running 1:1 in D stock, D/E mod and FE/SE.

Hi, Rick - we will not be able to reproduce 16:21 gears until a certain current supplier sells the few remaining sets he has. I've heard his price is $400 or better, so it may be awhile before we can produce them; obviously our price will be much more reasonable.

David - 1:1 D gears will be next; will keep you posted.

You should get in touch with Fred H. if you have not already and he will give you the low down on the whole D gear deal.

I have located a few overseas companies that have produced HP marine and automotive gears for 50+ years and they state they most likely have the tooling to do what is required for the original gears.

If this came about the same way some of the other Merc stuff was unloaded by the factory .... the price isn't that guy's fault. Merc charged way unreasonable $$$$$ to save stuff Merc was actually going to throw away. It is a "corporate policy"

If I wasn't dirt poor, I'd buy the 16:21's and combine them with the new batch and even the price out amoung the remaining old gears and the new ones.
For example:
If there are 10 sets left at $400 that is $4,000
If 25 new sets can be made for $6250 and combined with the 10 existing $400 sets - the total 35 sets can be sold for $295 per set .... a $45 penalty to get them out sooner. Without anyone paying the $105 higher price.

If it is less than 10, the penalty is less

Hey Sam,

I have hit this brick wall the Merc HP for going on 3 years. I have tried to make a deal with the supplier for everything that is left many, many times and it always falls through when it comes to the crunch.

I in no way defend Mercury and you may be right in the fact that everything was way too expensive but I really do have to disagree as I have the pricing that was sent out in 1995 as well as the inventory list of what they had left and I think that Merc was being generous with their 25% off racer discount to clear out the inventory which was a sale they held for over a month and could not get but a handful of people to buy some parts.

I believe your best market for the 1:1 A/B gears is with the collectors and antique outboard guys.
