Electric Starter for Racing Outboards

I have read this post a few times, and the price is right. However, I am not sure how it is spinning the flywheel. What I am wondering is will it work on a Hot Rod, Sidewinder, or Yamato 102/302

Not sure about the Hot Rod or the sidewinder, but on the 102/302 DO NOT try to start it with a socket on the bolt that holds the rope plate on. It's way to small and you'll break the bolt off in the top of the crank. You need to use an adapter to spin the rope plate itself, so it's turning the crank with the load on the keyway, just like it does when starting with a rope.

And yes Dave is right, I broke the top of my VRP crank shaft by using an electric starter on it.

Won't these starters cause a lot of stress on the flywheel bolt. Has anyone had one snap off with the use of a starter.

Larry McAfee makes a bolt on nut for the tops of the merc flywheelso you are driving the flywheel, and not the crank nut, works great
