The commercial tiny tach is programmable for both the Merc and Yamato.

        http://www.tinytach.com/tinytach/commercial.php

It also has a high RPM memory so old farts never have to look at it at all until they get back to the beach.

Faster update time than the regular tiny tach.

For only 65$ it is the best value in tachs, by far

If you want to spend some money try Digitron, they have a new product line for boating.

Mr. Walker is right. Digitron is great if you prefer a larger display. They also record a little more data.

This also works easy and great if you are just looking for recall of highest RPM or want to use it as a countdown timer.

A word of caution on tachs

I have a Digitron that I used on our OMC angines, then our Yamato 302. A couple years ago it started working (reading revs) on the beach, but would crap out once the boat was launched. I replaced the tach lead and it didn't help. When I called Digitron they said the tach was never meant to work with the ignition used in the Yamato 302, and that none of their models supported that ignition type. I have no idea why it worked on my 302 for about a year, but it doesn't any more.

huh???? Something doesn't sound right. Sounds like you may have a bad tach sensor and that is why it isn't working anymore. Hit me up on private message if you want some help with it. Digatron is 15 minutes from my house. I'll walk it in there personally...

One issue I've had with the digatron is the tach lead was too sensitive. I tried to spread the plug wires apart far enough to only pick up the pulse of one plug wire, but would get intermittent readings as it would still pick up pulses from the other plug wire. So, I left the plug wires fairly close to each other and programmed it to divide by 2 and it would work fine. Tony, you might give that a try - it worked for us.

if you call up digatron tell the lady my name have her look up my account and she could tell you what tach works with the yomato we have been using them for years with no problems they go through the kill switch wires for the RPM's and this seems to work very well it is not the small connector everyone is used to it is a yellow 3 prong plug .they are only open until 3 p.m. on fridays for tech support . good luck !

Nice post Tony. And you nailed it on the head.

The BEST way to use a Digatron with a Yamato, Konig, Konny, VRP, Rossi, etc is through the kill switch wires. The inductive pick ups work great on single cylinder go-karts (where there is no other coil interference) as that is what digatron was originally designed for and is also a very easy install. But like someone else mentioned above, the way the plug wires lay on the yamato they are very close togethor and can cause interference (i.e. shows double rpm's etc).

Now, if you are running the MSD Ignition that a lot of the pro guys run, they make a different adapter which ties into the tach output (12volt square wave signal) lead from the brain box and works just as good.

I have run through the kill switch wires, and also with the MSD adapter for years with no problems at all.

Digatron is a great company and they have a great product. Unfortunately there are many different types of ignitions in outboard racing that they don't have on their desk to bench test at high rpm.

If anyone needs any help with their Digatron equipment, please feel free to ask me. Digatron is only a few minutes from my house and I'll do anything I can to help anyone out.
