If you have racing equipment for sale. boats, motors, equipment and or hardware new or used. I would like to post them in my promo booth at races.

new hardware- I would really like to have a price list from manufacturers, color brochure would be ideal but not mandatory.
I will be adding a cork board to the booth for this purpose at Pell lake.

Motors- I have a brochure from sidewinder (thanks Ron) would like one from Bass and Yamato to add also. As many people know I have a Merc J motor that I am carrying around to display at all the races I attend (thanks Mark Wheeler and APBA) while it has not sold, IT HAS generated leads to potential new racers. the for sale sign hanging above it has gotten many spectators to ask questions. (several have filled out the cards we have with their contact info.)
Boat builders- this is for you also.
My intention is to build this into a place where a potential newbie can get all the info they need to start racing as a minimum. The ideal situation would be, they can get everything they need to go racing

ROFL Tom IT was at the drivers meeting at the gun range. But I can not seem to recall what you said that made me laugh so hard? Is that because I had put the coffee cup away for the night and was drinking those wobble sodas?
Mike. nothing but pure unadulterated premo coffee beans.

That's a very good answer! And the best dang cup of coffee I ever had! (Julie and Caroline love it too, and they're a tough crowd.)

Andrew I do not have pics of it sadly. several people took pics of it at grass lake. yet it was not actually complete as I did not want to take over the VIP tent completely. So it was set up minus one table for handouts and if I had used the banners I have. It would of reduced visability of the race and pit area for the sponsors so I chose to not use them at all. maybe someone will post some pics of what I did have?

                    promo update

The promotional booth was at Oshkosh 9/5 and 9/6. Then moved to Kankakee for Monday. Announcers at both sites did a very good job of plugging it to the spectators. Over the weekend we had nearly a dozen potential new racer cards filled out. 3 at Oshkosh the rest from Kankakee. 3 families from the K3 area are planning on attending Pleasant prairie on Sat. They are enthusiastic enough to be willing to pay the daily fee to let their kids get on the water for some boat time at the end of the day if time permits.
At times there were people literally standing in line to ask questions at Kankakee!
at the minimum at least 100 J handouts were distributed. and probably twice that of the driving school handouts!

I think I had more time kneeling in the boats that the Fairchilds had on display at K3 demonstrating how we drive them. Than I had boat time at Oshkosh racing
A big thanks to the great lakes club and Joe Walls for having the J's run. and for having the promotions booth there.
Thanks Jim and Dakota for moving their boats to the booth. Between those boats and the new J motor on display they generated a tremendous amount of interest. I actually had a sore throat from talking so much!

Thats Great Tom. In my opinion its equipment on display draws the potential new racers to the booth. Hats, shirts ex cetera do draw potential shoppers that would like to take something home from a race and that is great for getting our logo out in front of more people. But they do not necessarily draw those that are interested in participating in what we do.
In addition the Merc also draws some of those that are to old for J and to big for A they tend to look at the Merc and then ask how much a motor for other classes cost.
I liked the point one young man made. After looking at a handout that Chicago Paul came up with for our region. It lists the classes and approximate speed for each class.
He then asked what a new motor for B costs and the price of a new boat. I told him 4500 for the motor and about 3000 for the boat. Add a 1000 for new cut gear and 700 for a couple of new props. 500~1500 for a used trailer.
his point? if he sold his incomplete stock car he has been putting together over the last couple of years. He could be racing boats next season with funds leftover to attend races!. Just the new frame for the car cost him 8 grand. BTW he is not one of those that filled out the card.(he was hesitant and I was not going to push) but he did get my contact info and the APBA and BSOA website info.(my club does not have a website) He also thought the driving school is a tremendous selling point for our sport

                          Promo!

WOW It sounds like the promo booth at Kankakee was a big success. There are several people that plan to attend the Pleasant Prairie regatta to take a closer look and maybe a ride! This looks like it could be a very good addition for the APBA at any race that has a decent spectator turn out. I think having equipment on display and someone available to answer questions is a big part of its success.
My hats off to you Kevin, I didn’t think the Promo Booth would have this big of an impact.

Hey Mike and Mike It sounds like we better have some "loaner" rides at PP!!

                            Thanks Gene
Now comes the hard part we have to have people step up to the plate and take these people under their wing. We need to mentor them so they have a smooth introduction in to the sport. We need to make sure that they not only can get decent equipment. they will need help in all aspects of the sport. From understanding the rules to driving and setup tips. Many of the rules, our kids grew up hearing. Most know the rules governing what you can and can not do before they ever get their first ride in a boat. I think we sometimes take that for granted and do not make sure newbies know those ins and outs.

Many people have helped both behind the scenes and in obvious ways to help me make this as successful as it has been so far.

I'm a new member of this forum, but I had the chance to attend the P.P. event on Sunday and met Chicago Paul and Kev.

I attended with two buddies of mine, Luke and Bob. And I am Chad, by the way.

I have been looking into racing boats for about the length of this summer, but have always looked at the larger boats. I am also not so interested in driving them as I am every other aspect of the sport.

Luke and Bob are more into driving.

I must say, Kev's booth, as well as Chicago Paul, and another gentleman were more than helpful and that's great.

I've been to many races, not just boats, and no one has ever been so helpful, as well as many knowledgable people around.

Sunday evening looked like it was going to rain, but Paul and Kev took time out of their day and the activity of cleaning up before it rained to not only help us understand the sport, but Paul also put Bob's youngest son in a boat to see what it would be like if he were to drive one.

Kev had a few customers trying to get coffee, but he still took the time to give us information, as well as let us sign up to get info e-mailed to us. Then he promptly handed out cups of coffee, and stickers to us all.

Thanks again to everyone that gave us a hand yesterday, and especially Paul and Kev.
