    History

    Bob,

Any details on this engine, such as year of manufacture, ownership, etc. Who completed the rebuild?

    Thanks,

    DW

      250 Rossi

The 250 shown is the first Rossi in this country. I purchased it in the fall of 1996. Chris Hellsten ran it for 4-5 seasons. Chris nicknamed it “Mighty Mouse” as he won nearly everything with it. It still holds both a 250 Runabout and 250 Hydro Record. It is of the 56-50 configuration. This engine was replaced by the now 54 squared design. Each year I owned it, it was sent back to Rossi for updating.

I sold it to Jon Eldridge who owned it for a couple of seasons. I believe that Marshall rebuilt it for Jon. Jon then sold it to Red and it is my understanding that Bob bought it from Red’s estate. Hope this helps.

Basically what Jerry said, I bought it from him and ran it for a couple of seasons as is with no changes, just the occasional nicasil job. Then sold it to Red Hall in 2004 minus the gearcase, not sure what Red got for gears/gearcase or their condition but looks like a fairly new case. Hope this helps also.

That motor brings back great memories....never had to jet it. You actually wore the plating out long before ever sticking it! Heck when it was the only Rossi in the country we could even get parts in the same race season! But the **** thing never broke!

I don't think anyone running a GRM has missed a race for lack of parts in the last 3 years that I know of. We are constantly trying to make the motors better, and to last longer, but when you make more power, you sometimes sacrifice longevity. This is the price you pay to stay competitive.

              Rex,

I never meant anything by the parts comment. As competitive as racing is today its to bad things weren't as simple as buying a motor and racing the same one for 5 or 6 years.

Rossi and you have a thankless job supplying us with motors and parts. it definately takes someone passionate about are sport to keep it all going. You and Rossi definately have that. Keep up the good work!

              Chris
