Be careful when you open reed stops. Weather you use Boyeson or not, the stops are metal and can vibrate off, that is what trashed one of our engines.

You will have much more success with that engine by attempting to fabricate a Vee block reed set up. You can use the stock reed plate as a starting point, then build up the walls that will hold the Vee blocks. Then adapt another manifold and install your carb. It's allot of mousing around with aluminum and tig welders, but well worth it once everything is all set and fit.

Ive opened reeds on the big block 25, by the time its open enough to make a difference its to the point where breaking is a matter of time. BTDT. Remaking the whole setup?? Your not likely to just figgure this or that will work and be that lucky. If your too much or not enough or arent balanced out,, carb size & jets, reed volume, c-case compression cubic inches and exhaust, youll just be hopin to go. [need a plan man] Not to mention making all that not leak. By the time you do all that -may as well get the 40 - 50 that has em, youll certainly be faster.
Messing with reeds is a book no-do. If your gonna anyway use the Boyesens. Ive got a magnifying glass surrounded with a flourescent and hooded, Takes the pain in the eyes out of such a small job. Also if you bend the dampers dont bend the ones directly in the carb blast area, Id suggest bending the farthest ones slightly more and gradually less towards the carb.[aside from suggesting you dont] I saved the best for last.. you need a parts motor or 3

This type motor will run good most of the time nearly forever but does vari with condtitions [like anything else]. If your not getting real speed / rpm along with water & air conditions notes as ya go, ya wont really know by how it feels or if whatever you do to it makes a difference. This is a crossflow motor, lots of torque but not the best on hi speed. The lower end is good to about 7100 rpm [then you find out oil aint glue], the bearing cages will fail. To go faster its best to look at the overall boat.. weight, prop, setup, You should post some pics, how fast it is and how fast it was when you started.

ITīS HEALTHY!.... , TO MAINTAIN THE METAL REED STOPS AT "STOCK" CONDITION, AND STILL USING THE STAINLESS REEDS.

OTHERWISE, ITīS TIME...., WHEN ONE OF THE PETALS WILL BREAK ! AND gOOD BYE MOTOR
