  • Wanted-Motor that replaced the 60j but before the Evinrude.

Looking for the motor that replaced the 60j but was before the Evinrude 15. I believe it was a 25ss tower that had a 7.5 powerhead? I have seen one of these motors in person, and it was slightly bigger than the 60j.

If anyone knows anything about this motor it would be greatly appreciated.

Looking specifically for the tower and lower unit.

    Thanks

    7.5j

As I recall, it was a 7.5 on a 25ss tower. my memories of them are vague since there was only one on the west coast, and it was hard to see them from so far back in my 60J. Chris Gregg, if my memory serves, was the only one out here, but the Hearns and Garrett Armstrong would easily kick the rest of our a**es handily at the national. Not only were they @3/4ci bigger, but by the time that I ran J in the 80's the old 60's were whipped and parts were harder to find than bin-Laden.

        7.5j

        Doug,

The motor was built in the early 80's - it was a 7.5J, I actually have one.....it was a 7.5 powerhead on a 25SS tower.

The list price was $1,000 in 1983, $799 cash would get you one back then.

I still have the prop. Engines are long gone. You can see Beth's on the back of her Hydro and Runabout in the "Happy Anniversary Beth Hearn" Thread.

10XS engines were on the short 25 tower and were never made legal for Stock/J competition. Doc Collins bought a bunch of them and ran them as a local class, I believe, in the PRO category. Eddie.

                            10xs

10XS prototypes were made and tested, sales/marketing literature was published, but the motor was never manufactured and offered to the public.....sad, isn't it
