    Lots of questions....

I am in Naples, FL looking to get into the sport and would like info on the different hydro classes defining age, boat weight, total weight, motor size, and so on. I there a link on this?

Looking on the internet, I have found only one race in Florida that was held last month. I would love to go with my kids and speak with your racing group. Any ideas who or what is related to hydros in central and south Florida? I found a number for Hydroplane, Inc in Lakeland, FL, but no answer when called.

I have been looking for an old Swift hydro from the late '50s or plans for building. My father worked for Joe Swift back in the day building hydros, so this would be a good project for use.

Also would like to know what boats are competitive. Are there some used boats that can be competitive, good for a rookie, affordable, and are raced in this region. Can buy used, referb, or build. Also called Sorenson in California I think... left message. Are the Sorenson kits and final product good? Also saw an aprox 10ft Grand Prix for sale on line in the 3k to 4k range that was a good looking boat.

I am 51 years old ans 200lbs. Have a child 10 years old and 70lbs.

All info and link are very much appreciated.

    Regards,

Go to APBA's website and you'll have a description of all the classes. For your weight, C stock hydro, 302ss hydro, or D hydro is what you need to look at. The kid would be J
hydro or runabout. There are also modified outboard classes if that interests you.

            Boats

Sorenson has a nice kit available, complete with DVD showing you how it is done. Those boats run well. Not sure if he is still offering kits and plans, but I never heard he was not.

Since you are interested in building, you can also contact MRC, they offer plans for hydros, with an instruction manual. They are the owners of this website as well. Montana Race Craft. You can purchase materials locally and save on shipping, it is pretty high coming from CA.

Do get in touch with racers from your region. That will be your best bet.

I also live in Naples. How would you like to collaborate on this project? I am pondering building/ buying 3+ boats. One for myself and 2 teenage kids. Couple friends interested as well.

Everyone thank you for your emails. Keep them coming.
My hobby has been building off road jeeps for myself and others the last 8 years or so. I have a 3 car shop that is configured as such. The kids have lost interest because they don't fit in the back seat anymore and our choices of places to ride have diminished considerably over the last few years.
I am hoping to contact blessed48 soon.
At this point I don't know what I want. There is entirely too much information to sift through. My goal is to meet some of you and ask lots of questions and see some boats.
Is there a local club that meets regularly? Do you have practices as a group or is it an individual thing until race day?

Too bad lake apopka is 4 hours away. I'll need a little more lead time for that trip. Can I get on an Email list for the next one?

Wow, only a few miles from where I grew up.

I'm assuming Lk Apopka is not the location of the meet..? Not the cleanest lake around. Farms on the north side flushed fertilizer in for years. Was a clear, world famous fishing destination in the '20s, '30s, and '40s. Still clear on a small section on the east side as a crystal clear spring pours in there.

Naples is a big drive and wish I known sooner. I'll pass it along to some family not far from there.

Would it be at Stark Lake? near the center of Ocoee? They raced hydros there when I was a kid.
