  • Cut Suit Color?

Do cut suits have to be a specific color to be considered legal?

I don't think there are legal color restrictions, but if it were me the only color to choose is orange. Orange will always be legal, and is the most visible so you don't get run over.

Correct. There is no color requirement on cut suits. A lot of people feel brighter is better, while some like a darker color to hide the dirt. This is up to the driver's discretion.

        Black cut suits

I don't usually weight in on these things, but I remember one point made by one of our referees once about black cut suits (which I wear also). If the day was dark and/or cloudy it was very hard to see your arms above your head if you went into the water with black sleeves and you were trying to give the OK sign. He suggested (rather strongly if I remember correctly) that drivers with black sleeves put bright yellow tape around the forearms to fix this problem. I really had forgotten it until this thread, something to put on my winter to-do list.

In a Merc Challenge race at Grand Rapids MI, Craig Bowman dumped in front of me. Because of his then new bright orange cut suit I could see him in the water and avoided hitting him. If he had a black suit on, I think it would have been put to the ultimate test.
