New DSH Rookie!

Hi my name is Mitch,
i have been around boats all my life and going fast is a passion. So naturally outboard racing seemed like a good choice for a hobby!
I recently purchased a DSH. It a 2000 Keylard 11'-6". Was Jim Sweeney's hull, then Dave Scotts hull, then went to Randy Rapedieus, Now me!
I was just woundering...
What is the weight requirement for the DSH class? I weigh in at 160lbs, so i know i'll have to add some weight.lol

any other helpful hints and tips would be apreciated!

Where are you located? I live in western Pa. I stopped going to the races for lack DSH's. I would like to see the class make a comback in region 6.
Are you running a Merc or Tohatsu?

I haven't got a motor yet. but i plan on a merc 44xs and later a 55hmod with stacks!

Weights, if I read right:

CBF - 55H motor: 455 lbs
APBA or CBF 44XS/Tohatsu motor: 480 lbs

Some weight? You mean LOTS of weight ... right up front. LOL. I have 100 lbs on you and the Keylards like to run light as you can see from the picture.

Ask lots of questions Mitch ... join TORC ... join CBF and/or APBA. And ..... never under estimate the speed and power these D's have. Be careful! The water hurts at 80mph.

Welcome Mitch, you are joining a growing class in the north-east. Don't worry about your weight. Our current national champion and 1 1/4 mile record holder in DSH weighs about 135# soaking wet!
You have purchased a good safe boat and we look forward to seeing you on the race course next year!

p.s. Madstork, we had four DSH at Waterford, Ont last weekend three hours north of you. Until the class builds in region 6 again, you may have to travel a little. Keep in touch and maybe we can team up on one of our trips to region one next year so you can race the Mad Russian.

While I have never driven a DSH, I would suggest making sure you have a conservative setup until you really get the feel for it. There are quite a few DSH vets in your area (Keegan's come to mind). Lean on them for specific setup advice. Then, as you get more comfortable with the boat, then you can change the setup.

Including Mitch here, we have 7 active DSH outfits in our club and 1 more who bought equipment but hasn't been out yet. Dave Scott is also in Ontario so could have 8-9 if they communicate, pick a couple races and all come out for some fun. We have a couple inactive DSH racers in Ontario too whos funds are tight and haven't been on the water in a year or two, hopefully their situations improve.

Doug,
No offense, but Region 6 includes (OH, MI and N. Kentucky). There are typically 4-5 at MI races, but they need support as well. You may find that you will have to travel to Dayton, OH or Grass Lake, MI to get some races in. Hope to see you next summer.

Welcome to the class. I've been racing DSH full time for about 2 1\2 years. Its a fun, good class. For me its my smoothest ride (as opposed to CSH and CSR). Hope to see ya at some nationals soon. Its a strong class in the pacific northwest. Good luck.
