Ok I can field this one since my day job is a video editor, well sad news is that if you really want to edit and capture digital video you only have a few choices unless you want to spend hours on end pulling your hair out trying to make the kiddy stuff work.

    Choice #1

    Adobe Premiere Pro

Adobe® Premiere® Pro software is a revolutionary nonlinear video editing application. Powerful real-time video and audio editing tools give you precise control over virtually every aspect of your production. Built for the exceptional performance of Microsoft® Windows® XP systems, Adobe Premiere Pro takes video production to an entirely new level.

    Retail cost $699

    Choice #2

    iMove

One of those rare applications that actually changes people’s lives, iMovie has single-handedly made cinematographers out of parents, grandparents, students, teachers, small business owners and many other people just like you who, before iMovie, never imagined themselves producing a movie. Let alone half a dozen or more.
Now iMovie makes it even easier for you to turn your digital photos, music and photographs into movies. And thanks to increased performance, a streamlined editing process and a series of new features, you’ll be able to make movies even faster than you could before.

    Mac/ Apple only

    Choice #3

    Final Cut Pro 4.0

Final Cut Pro 4 is the creative, professional and extensible tool for editing and finishing in SD and HD formats.

Now optimized for Power Mac G5 and Mac OS X Panther, Final Cut Pro 4 offers breathtaking performance at a fraction of the cost of systems requiring dedicated hardware — up to 40% faster than a Xeon-based PC.
