    boy oh boy............

    (3) GREAT referees and several drivers (with personal experience) have spoken about NOT having the cameras mounted on the helmets.............so, this should end the debate! It is funny sometimes how people can start *****ing about a subject, WITHOUT doing any research or knowing the facts behind it.............isn't this kind of whining supposed to be done during the winter (non racing) months??????

      End It

      For the record, I never said remove the ref. And based on the onslaught of recent saftey requirments that have certainly stirred debate among racers was used as my data. Darren is the one whom assumed I wanted the ref replaced. Silly assumptions. Never read more into posts than you should.

      Should the ref want to ban them at races, like he just did, it sets the precedent for the saftey board to implement a rule. Simple enough to process to understand I would think. Prior to banning what kind of data was collected supporting the ban at that race ? About as much data as the mirror rule implemented was I suspect. I might be wrong though.

      Not bashing any refs, you might do a great job reffing a race and moving things along fast.

      If you are on the saftey board and don't like my opinions, sorry. That is how I feel. Feel free to flame me as Darren does, I have no problem with it. My opinion will still stand. Remember, living in the U.S. is about being able to make choices......

        When all else fails

        Here's an idea: When all else fails, consult the Manufacturers.

        I did some research this morning on this. SRP carries helmets from three different manufacturers, HJC, Shoei and Pyrotect. I checked with each manufacturer to see what their literature has to say, if anything, about attaching items to helmets. Here's what I found:

        SHOEI: No information provided.

        HJC: Do Not Modify Your Helmet

        Your HJC helmet is designed to meet SNELL and DOT standards. Contact HJC America for more information about SNELL and DOT standards. Modifying your helmet may increase your risk of serious injury or death in an accident. Do not modify your HJC helmet. Modifications include the following:

        • drilling holes;
        • cutting shell, liner, or strap;
        • modifying the retention system, including adding a chin cup;
        • removing parts;
        • painting; and
        attaching accessories that are not manufactured by HJC for this helmet.

        If you have any questions about modifications, please email us at info@hjchelmets.com

        PYROTECT: DO NOT attach anything to your helmet. Attachments can focus a blow in a small area. Rigid attachments can cause twisting of your head and neck in an accident which might result in serious injury or death.

        Data? Maybe not a specific number of samplings, but if it's good enough info from the manufacturers, it's good enough for me.

        Oh, wait a minute: I forgot! Those greedy manufacturers of safety equipment just want to make money from those poor racers. I guess we can't trust them, either....

          Jeez, all I wanted to do was show off my new camera....

          With the rubberized straps that Oregon Scientific uses the camera would get pulled off the helmet very easily and would have little or no effect on neck torque, (I was planning on tethering it).

          And as far as any camera mounted to the top of a helmet, IMO, it would need to be a perfect lawn-dart head first straight in crash to have any effect on neck torque.

          I also think a cockpit or engine mount is better anyway.

            Wasn't there a speaker at the national meeting in the past couple of years who discussed helmet safety and talked about what the effects of even the vents protruding from the helmets were and their associated drag through the water?
            I didn't hear him speak, so if not, I'll take my herniated discs and head restraint and go sit in the corner...
            I always thought growing up would be cool, I was wrong!
            The other day GG laughed at me because I take more pills a day than she does....
