A bit more info on this run

Two SL250 class boat's competed at Coniston this year. The boats were powered by Evinrudes new E-Tec 250 engine. Jan Falkowski established the initial record at the start of the day, this was followed by Keith Whittle pushing it over the 100mph mark. Jan did a one way run a 103mph but flipped and crashed on the return leg. Luckily Jan escaped unhurt, the boat coming off far worse. The boat was recovered, dragged upside down with the engine submerged the whole length of the lake and handed over to the pit crew for re-starting. After a good cleanup the boat was taken out onto the test circuit by Keith and put through it's paces. Then it was onto further attempts to push the record. John Puddifoot from the RYA who also drives the boat managed to push the speed up to 118.48, not bad for a stock engine that has been abused, submerged and thrashed. So the E-Tec 250 is not just green it can take a beating and is pretty durable to boot. - Martin
