    Hi all!!
How much does it cost to run a boat in california for one season?
That's with everything. And how often do you rebuild engine, gear case etc.
And how much gear do you transport to every race.
    Pictures would be nice!!
    Wife want to know??

    Thanks!

Calling Ron Hill.... Ron should chime in and give you the full run down on running a SST45 on the west coast.

How Much Does Boat Racing Cost in California?

Well, I probably know......but let's just start with the basic expenses of travel and entry fees:

Races: Assuming you live in SoCal

      1. Parker Thanksgiving--500 miles----$250 Entry fee
      2. Puddingstone---100 miles----$200 Entry fees
      3. Bakersfield---400 miles----$200 entry fees
      4. Chowchilla---500 miles---$100 entry fees
      5. Long Beach---100 miles---$250 entry fees
      6. Salt Springs---600 miles---$100 entry fees
      7. Minden (2)--- 600 X 2 ---$200 entry fees
      8. San Diego---200 miles---$200entry fees
      9. Isleton---800 miles---$100 entry fees

Of course you don't have to race at all the races.

Now for equipment.....A boat and a motor is $5,000 and that is a good price for some good equipment right now.

With no racing experience...after the first race, you have $3,000 in repairs.

It is very hard, in my opinion, to race a 45 without some small boat experience.

Chad raced 45 for 5-6 years, we broke one crank, and ruined one gearcase (Somebody forgot to put oil in it).

My youngest son, Broc, raced little boats a little, he drove Tammy Dawe's #2 A Hydro, but in one season he totaled one boat, lost several pickle forks and rear cowlings, and ruined one engine, buy putting the generator gas in his 45.

You don't need a 34 foot trailer like we had.....but it is nice to have generators, drills, starters, water pumps, head gaskets, timing lights and a few thousand other things.

You don't need a crew of ten, but it helps...Chad, Pat Bowman, myself, Steve and Lane Curry could keep Chad on the water all weekend. Add Broc into it, and add Pat's Nostalgia boat...and you need people...

          How Much Does It Cost???

A few more pictures.....What does time with family and friends cost? Don't ask about "OLD SCHOOL"....But, at the end of the day, we get ready for Sunday's racing...
Boat racing IS a lot of work or how else could Chad's hands get that dirty? Or How could Chad and I think so hard???

New drivers need coaches. If you are in SoCal, I'm a good coach, I taught school for 38 years...
