good luck...
we bought the proper lifting hardware and went to a sail shop, they had the strapping that was rated for lifting... They did the sewing...
I do not agree with the rules for these lift slings that people are using... If there are no weight ratings on these slings they should not be legal to use... The clubs we race with should have to acknowledge OSHA rules for lifting and swinging loads... Signing the waiver will not make them immune from law suits when someone gets hurt... not to metion the loss of equipment or life... You Can not buy hooks and ring to make these at your local hardware store in most cases.. Ive seen alot of these slings that are dangerous and should not be used but pass inspection because the strapping meets the size requirement...
We made ours for around 50.00 and are safe but not rated..
I Work for one of the largest underground utility contractors in the nation.. We have strict safty policy regarding this stuff, If the rating tag falls off a sling we are using, it is no longer any good regardless of the condition of the sling...
Our clubs are always promoting safty but have no safty directors seems like a oxymoron to me... Mabey they do but ive yet to meet one other than inspectors.. This is a bigger subject than the rigging of your boat and proper kill switches..
Ask your club for the MSDS MATERIAL SAFTY DATA SHEETS.. on the chemicals used in inspection... It is illeagle not to have these.. If i use white out in my pick up for paper work I have to carry the MSDS incase one of my employees eats or drinks or gets it on them... Ive seen un marked containers of Cyclohexane The chemical used for calibrating fuel meter sitting on tables with little kids around Looks like water to me...
I belive this is somthing that the clubs can not police them selfs and should be 3rd party or APBA..
Keep in mind this is the day and age of accountability ...
Sorry for the long reply just trying to make people aware...
Mike
I will forward to fred miller and those guys and gal working on the ptt site ... mabey we can get this as a link on hydroracer as well along with apba site and apr site ...
I would have paid a 100.00 versus making my own and the run around town to make it happen....
Things like this should not be a question... We all know where to get props and boats...why not this stuff...
Mike
Thanks for the replies. I agree with what you are saying. I know all the tow straps I ever bought had a rating and any indication of slight fray or cut I tossed them out. It could be a dangerious situation with straps not strong enough or set up for the hull so it will balance properly. I will try the website. It is a pugh 45 boat.
Thanks
