This is unfortunate for Mike. You are taking a risk when you get into a race boat. Since most race insurance are designed as a second carrier, should the racing organization require proof of medical insurance to race?

So you are saying the only concerns found here at Hydroracer is your statement above?????

Here is the Latest on Mike Devore, in Critical Condition since the accident! Maybe if you are an actual Doctor, you may reconsider and contribute?

Here is the latest everyone. Along with a picture that Luke said I could use to remind everyone to keep praying!

Today again no change in vent or sedation. They are going to try him on a different sedation medication to see if they can keep him calm while decreasing it and try to decrease the vent settings. Nurse was just starting the medication change today. I imagine they would start the decrease tomorrow after the switch is complete. Both the chest tubes are to water seal which means one more step to getting them out. They will re-X-ray and make sure the air or blood does not increase since they are no longer on suction. We have asked for a meeting from doc to get more in depth info and prognosis. CT must have been ok or unchanged because no info was discussed about it

Here is the link where all you fellow racers, heck some of you reading this were there, may click on and view Mike as seen from his Son's cell pic!
Mike is obviously unable to work and needs our help! So far the flat bottom community has responded generously and here is our chance to add what ever you can afford and still remain annonimous.

If not in funds, can you contribute in Prayer as so many are doing??? Thank you oh so much, Mike has been an AOF and NBRA racer in this Special Class for over 14 years now. He is one of the best Pro Stock racers in APBA region 10 also but was joining his friends at SLORA
when this horrible accident took place during practise! We are all at a loss in figuring out what happened and why! PLEASE

No good news this am, Friday, Mike did breath on his own briefly but his Heart malfunctioned and he had to go back on the vent. He also has Pneumonia and serious lung bruising. He is a fighter, and we still need to pray!

Mike is still in bad shape and I feel the staff and Hospital have done all they possibly can. His third Cardiac arrest has us all very worried and we need to Pray for a Miracle! His son Luke is taking this so well like the young Man we know he is! You can still help in several ways! Thank you Joe and others who have sent Prayer all over the USA! Where are Mikes other hydroplane friends????? You can view more on Facebook under Boyd Schnell

Another example of why Flat bottom need to have enclosed safety capsules unfortunatly the current leader of the inboard division is putting membership numbers before safety and the APBA president does not have guts to stand up to him and do what is right and save lives and insurance claims! How long will it be before APBA insurance company refuses to insure this class? This is another good racer that would have been spared from the unfortunate injuries!

Another great racer gone, when will the Inboard VP wake up and mandate capsules how many more good people will be lost?
The racing community needs to pressure APBA to uphold the mandate for capsules for flat bottom boats, our prayers are with Mikes family today and we will light a candle in his memory.

Sorry to hear the passing of Mike. Would like to have a separate forum on the capsule issue. Let's leave this page for those you wish to offer their condolences to the family.

Mike and Luke Devore: original members of American Outboard Federation and Nostalgic Circle Flatbottom Boat class. Started drag boat racing in 1998, then advanced to Circle racing at Banks Lake Wa in 2001 and continued until current. He was runner up at the Western Pro Stock Nationals under APBA region 10 and finished well in Region 10 points even though he missed many races. He loved competing at the prestigious Burley Regatta since 2008. Mike won that event his first time there in the GPS80 or Nostalgia class with California competition present. Engine problems appeared after Burley 2015 where he raced in extreme ambient temperatures resulting in 300 degree engine oil temps and forced him to pull out of competition. He did make one Region 10 event this year but bearing failure from that engine put him on the trailer early. After a total rebuild, Mike decided to run with his Nostalgia friends at Waites where this tragic event took place.
His 'gofund page' shown above, as you can see, all the donars names, reads like the whos who of flat bottom classes, both Kboat, Pro Stock and Super Stock! On Facebook are even more to include Gordon Jennings, Julian Pettengil (K50) Karl Loveless, Jerry Gilbreath, Fred Hart, Billy B, and many other famous drivers! He will be missed by many many, including his first home of racing friends who own and race Hydroplanes!
Will you click on that gofund link and help with expenses? Thank You so very much and there you will see the Familys last picture of Dad and Son! Rest well my friend!
