  • Capsules coming

Some new apba rules are forthcoming on that clear over helmet wind screen thingie following more driver injuries. One can only imagine what exactly is in the works, but I smell a gradual timed capsule requirement for flats currently racing way faster than Nostalgia.

This potential ruling is due in part to Australias new ruling requiring such devices in the inboards. In case you are unaware, they have seen 3 fatalities this last year. One American was well know to us flat racers.

Few years back (in 2000) capsules were required for all K boats and after the majority of Ks promised to go elsewhere, apba relented with new rules allowing open boats. One was the requirement of cutsuits! Smaller engines & blowers to keep the speeds down, so they thought!

So you might say outboarders had it right first! Cut resistant suits, that most of us complained about ARE a fact of life when you talk safer racing.
    And another valid point;
a shorter course slows everybody down! Slower speeds are for me!!! The fun level stays the same or just maybe increases when no injuries occur period!

Any arguements? Of course, I'm the jerkish pot stirrer! But you cant argue our idea way back in 2000 was a bust! Definitely not!

Lets all keep safety up front in new parts decisions for 2011. Your happiness depends on it!

    GPS's On Board

GPS's on board have worked well for Nostalgia here. My thinking....our current speed of 80 mph is too fast...I like 70 mph.

But my Nostalgia boat got kicked out because it was an OUTBOARD!!!

911 was our Nostalgia racer......No capsule but very high sides.

I agree, 1/2 of our race craft should have that lower speed limit, I'm all for it, maybe an average of everyones speed so the fast slow down and slow can run full throttle! Could be interesting! No DQs, however, let speeders fall one lap behind the next legal boat.

You know, there is real TRETCHERY involved.

        New Rules.

Boy how this is trying to evolve. Let the debate begin. I still vote for the old timing in for like-speeds but I'm not even a racer. Let the 750 horsepower Backlund Fords run with the 625 horse big block Chevys. That will give the Small block fords some competition. Jimmy D.

I'm not getting into this, or spending all this money, to go eighty.

The trouble with no DQ's is that we end up with Nostalgia being a place for guys to test props and they make 100-110 passes and say they don't care about the entry fee.....So, if you go over 85 mph we kick them out for the weekend...You don't go above 85 by mistake.

In a five lap heat, one lap is a fair penalty.

I vote for 70 MPH and allowing outboards, too!

By definition, it's not an "outlaw" class if it has rules. Speed limits? in racing? I vote no, but......

1.) I should probably wait and see if I can get this old tug boat of mine to go 80.

2.) It's not in my nature to keep my opinion to myself.
