              Corner Rules

I read your rules and think I understand. You draw for lanes, everyone holds their lane thru turn one. Before you can change lanes in a corner you need four boat lengths. Is this ture?

How do you handle a boat that goes very wide on a corner, must he be four boat lengths ahead of you before you can go in the "Hole"???
Lets say a boat is in lane two, two boat lengths back, at the corner he mus stay in lane two thru the entire corner??? When can a second place boat change lanes? When he's four or more boat lengths behind???

We had a little "Corner" trouble in our Classic Outboard Runabout class at San Diego. We don't want to repeat our trouble.

Thanks for asking Ron We draw for lanes before first heat then each heat therafter we move out. We hold our lanes threw first turn and then after a 4 boat lead can change lanes. If Im passing someone on the inside and Im in lane 1 I had better put a boat ahead of someone on the right of me before I get to enterance pin our plan on getting cut off other wise I say I own lane 1.

                  My .02

Not sure I understand Es statement. If a racer cuts from an outside lane into #1 without 4 lengths ahead of inside boat (on either side) he fouls, you are required 4 lengths before you change lanes. I'm not sure if you are describing diving inside or going around on the outside, you still need 4 lengths, 72'. The course referee determines what is a safe distance that accomplishes a safe pass or lane change. Didnt we have a flip due to this sort of manuver recently? At least thats what I was told, only the driver knows. The boat dove from lane 5 to 4 crossing a wake illegally in the 1st turn. Your reference was entering turns not exiting but, same rule application.
Heck, when in doubt, stay in your lane, other pros do.

Oh boy, heres where disagreement escalates, I suppose.
My wife & I try to give a speeding 2000LBs boat a wide birth especially in a turn for safety sake, without chopping or shoving; causing the overcome racer to swerve or throttle down abruptly.
As you and I know, this can upset a flat or hydro and then the drivers often get equally so! Just what's considered a safe pass or lane change? Or, what is lane width? Does anyone know?
When Howard Shaw, the Unlimited an Region 10 ref was present, we learned what was cosure. He provided expert interpretation of the rules or LAW at big boat races with different sanctioning bodies. He now races exclusively on the West coast, our loss. No one with his experience volunteers to judge anymore it seems. Not saying current staff doesnt try very hard to catch rule violators, no sir!
Sometimes problem drivers and or rookies go unchecked or; UNSCHOOLED. That's a fact! Teacher left the classroom or was napping on the job some might say but then we must consider exactly how much was his paycheck? So on and on it goes............... Heck, a helicopter would be nice too but I'll get real, only those Unlimited folks have that.

If anyone really cares about safe Nostalgia racing, you give the other guys and gals plenty of room and remember why we race old boats. Are we only there to win that medal? Or for the comraderie and fun? Your lane will get better if we are patient.

Keep it in perspective, no one wants to do glass work..........or get hurt!

                    What a bunch of dribble

The guy in lane one was making his presence known , he didnt change lanes he ownes lane one . Point being If theres a lane or lanes on your left plan on someone coming up on that side. As far as the guy going on his head if he would have held his lane as per A O F rules his boat wouldn't have sunk.

Dribble?? He's kidding right? I Drool like my pet

                      So cant you read?
I said the flipper made an ILLEGAL move and he admitted it (first paragraph).
Sometimes, as your post proves, it seems you just have to argue with me here. Why is that I wonder? We have only had 2 close incidents (Burley&Moses) and I understand why you moved over early and would love to put it behind us.
You fit the serious racer profile but in contrast, I could care less if I win another badge! Don't get all puffed up now, I still think you are a skilled driver often displaying some of the best 'blanket racing'.
My other point is that many fouls go undetected and so drivers should drive accordingly, putting safety first, and not depend on the 'tooth fairy' to save the day.
I sometimes, in the past but not this year, wait to move over until I can see them on the backstretch To each his own, and since you've said you dont plan on running our ski-boat or GPS class, I dont foresee a problem. But I do have the right to convey my interpretation of the rules and Jerk & Mrs.Jerkette have had way more experience than you Nostalgia Flat wise.
Get the PopCorn ready, I'm positive he'll argue that!
