Jerk, l like the pic of the yellow boats nose with nostalgia emblem on it. Did you sell the wife's boat (red & white one)?

Thank you, its my favorite also and survived the boat sell off! This yellow 1974 Shark was certainly a leader in boat technology being a bi-core construction (multi materials and layers) and was what the impressive Beisemeyers copied. I just need to update some hardware and hope to make it more user friendly I'll be able to give rides to 4 at a time, and help tow flats when neccessary.

Here's one of the favorites of our class: George Thomas the Bush Pilot from Rice Wa. in a very rare Continental all white and dubed 'Got Milk'. George was uncanny in his rookie year winning the hearts of everybody with his warm smile and wit. When not able to bring his boat, he would fly in and touch his plane wheels 1/2 way around the buoyed course! We miss you George and Tom and Bear!

The other rare piece is Bill Silverthorns Aquacraft Wickens with a 1962 Holman Moody 427 FE Ford big block. His daughter took over driving duties the last few years but after the original block expired they have fought mechanical gremlins galore! A new set of aluminum cyl heads are soon to be installed and then we may get to see the very proficient girl driver, Sharon regain the helm of an awesome Marathon Ski boat.

Cant sleep

so why not some more? This used to be my boat up until 2004 when it threw me out. I then disowned it and it now races in New York under Vintage ERR racers with a new owner Greg Barker. The Barkers have been racing many classes for decades.


Kinda wish I had it back, it was Glen Stones 'Comin Thru' 1974 Lavey craft with real racing history and with 396 power the only guy beating me up was George Nordling and his '496' Bezer! It finished 2nd or 3rd in points without completing the full season.

I was thrown into the engine when it pulled a giant wheelstand entering turn 2 at Banks Lk. My rear end tore off the carburetor, distributor, and bent the headers when my hands were stripped from the steering wheel grips and I blasted from the helm! I was black and blue for 5 weeks but it really didnt hurt and the cut resistant suit prevented serious cuts to my trapped left leg. I announced the next heat featuring my wife in her boat!

Marc has sold the red blue Hallet and now owns a yellow B-boat that is in full restoration with hopes of returning in 2010 to region 10 racing and possibly Moses Lake. Marc sells kitchen remodels and cabinets in Olympia Wa. Dixie's parents reside here in Spokane. Super super folks that we miss often. Marcs Dad Jon helps the Lavey Navy from Oregon when he can get away and takes great race pictures!

One more

tonight: Two of the prettiest Sangers ever to compare speeds! That's Ror's Sk76 and Jeff Humpries in Scotts' 548. Jeff is more famous in the 535 yellow Hondo but here he had his hands full trying to find some smooth sailing. The boat always handled poorly no matter who was driving. It finally crashed at Long Lake while just cruising for fun and may never see a race again. You may recognize, our favorite Ione course.

Hey guy's, cool site and love the old boats. Marc suggested I check you out. My family and I have just recently got a '76 Sanger Familyski bubble deck flat.
It's our first boat and we are really flippin excited. Is anyone planning on going to the Can Am Challenge at Dexter June 12-13? Looking forward to talking with you guys.

Tom, no that is Marc Halvorson, he had the Barron Sprint, SS-79. I'am in pic #5 sitting next to Boyd, I am on the left, Boyd is on the right. I think that was one of our Burley adventures. Even though it doesn't look like it we were haveing fun! LOL

My new bottom

Not that one, its still old! Greasers' bottom: Rotten balsa wood has been replaced with new and Vinyl ester resin plus layers and layers of mat and cloth recovers and fixes this 1969 marathon race boat named after my cat! Instead of bumps and delamination, I have a straight, flat fast bottom that shouldnt take violent bounces at over 80!

Past question

someone asked my why didnt I do this repair from the top!? You could not see any wood rot or bad lamination at all from the top. My bumps could only be addressed from the bottom and the affected area cut out then repaired. Jim D. brought his boat jig over and we rolled it over to find a much wounded and weakened bottom that would never had been discovered if still sitting on a trailer!
I wonder how many other boats suffer similar degrees of this problem and are still racing around? You just wont see it unless you flip it! I know of only 2 other boats that had their bottoms checked and blueprinted (straightened). They both had handling issues before the fix.
I learn something new all the time with these glass-wood classics.

PS I still cant find where or how the water had gotten in between the glass layers to rot out 3 sq feet, my only guess would be condensation brought about by cold water on the bottom and hot sun and engine heat above. Like double pane storm glass will gather droplets between the two. I guess!
