The 2006 NBRA Stock & Mod Outboard Nationals is definitely a go in
Okmulgee August 18-20 with super support from Okmulgee State Park's
manager and his assistant, as well as Okmulgee's Mainstreet
organization and tourism bureau. While the original sponsors are no
longer involved in any way with the race, the community has picked up
the ball and doing what it can to help make this an enjoyable weekend
for all concerned after all of the hassles of this week.
Right now we cannot guarantee any prize money, but we're still working
on it. Also, we MAY have to increase class fees, but that's not certain
yet, either. (I will keep you posted as we know for certain on these
matters.)
Some items of note we all need to consider:
*There will be camping allowed in the pit area (tents near the shelter
on some grass). Camping in the pits will have NO electricity or water
provided so you will have to be self-contained. Camping costs even in
the pits is $8 per night. (It's a state park and rules are rules).
*No scooters, ATVS or other unauthorized vehicles (other than the Mules
or staff 4 wheelers) are allowed in the park and we've been asked to
abide by this...even though several of you do have such vehicles to run
back and forth with. Please don't use them at Okmulgee this year. We're
trying to keep our welcome spotless!
*All dogs MUST be on a leash and ALL times.
*And, we always clean up after we leave, which we'll need to do again.
There is a work detail coming in this weekend to remove rocks from the
beach area...which will help with pitting.
Also, the lake is down somewhat from previous years, but there is ample
sandy beach from which to launch.
NOTE: PLEASE TRY TO REGISTER BY 6 P.M. FRIDAY AUGUST 18 DEADLINE. IF
YOU CANNOT BE THERE BY THEN, PLEASE CALL BUTCH WEBB OR MYSELF AND LET
US KNOW YOU'RE COMING AND WHAT CLASSES YOU'LL BE RUNNING. This will
help plan class sizes and split up any prize money we may be fortunate
enough to arrange.
