Hey yall, this past weekend the NBRA held a race in Mansfield, Arkansas on beautiful Lake Spur. In the last heat of C Stock Hydro on Sunday, one of my really good friends from Texas, Rusty Hawkins took a really hard wreck. Coming out of the turn and heading to the start/finish line to end lap 2, he spun his boat enough for it to catch on the right side and dig into the water and he barrell rolled. While the boat was barrell rolling he was hit by another driver that had no where else to go. Rusty was taken to the hospital in Ft. Smith. He has a broken hip and pelvis aswell as a large gash in his lower leg.
Me and this guy have been really good friend since i made my first race back in 2003 in Pineville, Louisiana. We tested together before that very race and always keep in touch through the racing season and have a lot of respect for each other. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and I hope that he has a good recovery. My racing life wouldnt be as good as it is with out him at the races with me and I am just really thankfull that it isnt any worse.
