A very hot day of racing coincided with the weather today as 3 Champions were crowned here in Oklahoma today as the NBRA kicked off day one of three days of competition. For the first time, the NBRA used the 3 heat format for everything except the Novice Class today. It worked well and the heats went off without a hitch.
The first class of the 2016 Championships was the BH class with Doctor Rick Miller finding time with all the responsibilities he and his Dad Dr. Leonard Miller have been taking on putting this race together, went out and won the first two heats by good margins over John Matthews and Tara Cook. As the third and final heat began to unfold, Rick knew he could not jump the gun or it would end his chances at the title. Rick started in about the 4th position well back of the line at the start. He moved quickly to the second spot behind Matthews who was trying to put his stamp on the last heat and so he did, as John finished ahead of Rick and Tara once again. Rick with 1100 points took the title over Matthews by 100 points with Rick's two heat wins and a second, compared to John's two seconds and a first.

In the Novice Class Mckenzie Baze took both heats of this race with the proverbial blanket over the three of them in both heats with Mckenzie taking the wins by less than a boat length in each heat. We thank Courtney Sanders and Bailey Owen for driving beautiful races to tie for second overall.

In the ER class, the wily veteran, Kevin McAfee showed his rooster tail to the good field of ER's and took all three heats for a perfect 1200 points over the field with Mike Kirkendahl running in the 2nd spot in the first two heats and trading Keith Kampen paint with Keith Kampen for a 2nd over all with Keith finishing on the podium as well in the 3rd spot.
We crank up the action tomorrow with 6 classes to run and the heat supposed to be coming down a bit as we move through the weekend. Our thanks to Jack Stotts and Patsy Ruth for their help as referee and chief scorer as well. Our thanks go to the park board and the Claremore fire and police depts. for their support as well.
