Just wanted all to know the city of Ponca City's Park & Rec Dept.,
spent a bunch of "quality" time at our race site over the past
several weeks and cleared a pot load of willows, underbrush, cat
tails and poison ivy out of the field of view for spectators.
The clearing also opened up more pit area north and south of the
marina. If you remember the brush pile just north of the clock at the
NBRA Nats... well, there are three big, well-trimmed trees there
now...nothing else!
A big thanks goes to Park & Rec for being responsive to what was a
real problem at our first race last year.
In March I'm going to get busy in earnest hustling financial support
and making arrangements for the August 13-14 race (and getting a
contract with the city...which will include funding or finding a
sponsor for some permanent electrical work at the site). Overall,
folks are pleased we're going to bring the boats back this year...I
hope you all can plan to truck down to Oklahoma that weekend. It WILL
be hot...I guarantee it! And, right now the lake is running over the
spillway, so we should have good water...even that late in the season.
Here's to another great race at Ponca... I'll even have some snazzy T-
shirts ready here one of these days, complete with lots of your
friends in a full color shot!!! I'm still hoping to have about $4,000
in prize money for the 2005 edition of Ponca City Waterfest... mark
your calendars.
