For the record I did private message ArtK and say I would do it! We will see what the response is.

I will even write the proposal! Basically, what I would recommend is: A non-racing member with and Official Membership should prepare the ballots, based on wording provided by the Association from the annual meeting, and see to their numbering and mailing (expenses reimbursed by NBRA) and that the ballots would be returned to the same person who would validate them. Validation defined as checking to make sure ballot is numbered, is within the sequence of numbers of ballots issued, and that said number is not duplicated which would void said ballot and it's duplicate(s).

Then the ballots would be forwarded to someone for counting, i.e. the President. The counting party would also have a list of Ballots numbers and code designations sent out and would be able to match the two for a second validation. Any voter wanting to be sure their vote was included would be able to record the number shown on their ballot and it could be used to verify the vote was received and counted (or if not counted why it wasn't) by a simple email or phone call, if needed.

This way Ballots remain secret allowing folks to vote without fear of any reprisal.

I even said I would make and mail the ballots!

Seems pretty simple to me! Seems like if you don't like part of the process you have to be willing to be part of the solution.

I have a question.. Who or what determines if you get to vote on a class specific purposal.. I guess who knows what each person races.. Especially if you raced but never got any points due to motor issues, illness such as drinking to much the night before, or family issues come up, etc

My understanding is if you have not scored any points in a class you have no vote. Otherwise people could sign up for every class and then scratch just so they can get a vote.

So what about folks who paid memberships, took their boat to a race and not enough folks showed up to make a class so they got no points. What about folks who showed up at races who registered for the class but boat broke during first heat and scored no points. (Some of these folk even attended the national meeting, now they get no say? Really?)

What about team owners who own the boats and motors but don't actually drive them? Seems like they should get some say on regulations that they are going to have to live with and provide mechanical support for!

I see a huge, huge inequity here. Perhaps you should have to declare your class(es) on the membership form and then you are eligible to vote in those declared classes only. I understand the intention but I think it is unfair as it currently is being administered.

                      Ballots

If you go by what you declare at the beginning of the year, what stops someone from putting every class down just so they can have a vote. I agree that it might not be fair that someone who breaks down in the first heat and scores no points has no vote, but I don't know any other way to keep the voting only to the drivers that are affected by the votes on their classes.

This is our sport and almost everyone has a day job, this organization is ran by volunteers and this is to often forgotten. We need to say thanks and remember this. Bailey and I spent 5 minutes with the Ballot with no problems, signed every page and put out return address on it. I don't care who sees it because it's what I believe is correct . I ran ER in the Y8 in Mountain Home but decided I shouldn't vote on E because I don't own one. I guess if you can't make this work by honesty then we need to send ballots with only the recipients class issues on their ballots. The best thing is just make it work and move on but if there is an issue then bring it to the National Meeting or send it with someone. Just my point of view

The issue would seem to be if you have a dog in the fight............

......then you have a right to vote on the issue that pertains to that class. If not running the class, then you don't.

Possibly with a small organization as NBRA is at present, if national points are tabulated (and they seem to be otherwise how do you come up with National High Point winners) match the ballots with the score sheets or whatever is used to tabulate those points. If you want to have the right to vote on a particular issue with a specific class, you must have scored points in that class. The score sheets or whatever is used to tabulate the points, are the proof of the right to vote on those class issues.

A little more work and record keeping, but if it is deemed that important, then you must have the proof of competition.

Leave it to total membership in the class as far as numbers involved as to what percentage of races must be made to be able to vote, if that would be important, rather than just registering for the class at the beginning of the year and then never running it.

Unless I am missing something, it would not seem to be that hard.

                                Agree...

Jeff, I agree 100 percent! All to often group run organizations end up falling to the 90/10 rule. 90 percent only want to show up and have fun and 10 percent do all of the work, ALL OF THE TIME! And anyone who has ever put on a race or has run a group organization knows exactly what I'm talking about.....
Now back to the current business at hand.... what I don't understand is, this has been our procedure for years...so why now the big problem with the ballots? I sent my in but absent mindedly forgot to sign it so it doesn't count. No problem, that is my fault and mine alone, so I don't understand why all of the complaining. If you didn't sign it and/or put your return address on it then you only have yourself to blame for not following simple directions. I personally think it silly to change a process that has worked for years just to accommodate a few who don't follow directions!

Jeff, you and our current leadership IMO are doing a great job, keep up the great work and I look forward to next season....
