Were recieving a lot of ballots that have no return address or identification at all. These ballots cannot be counted. A lot of people are voting the TECH BALLOT that are ineligible. If you did not compete in the class the ballot concerns, you cannot vote. It says at the end of the proposal who can vote in bold print {Example D DRIVERS ONLY} If you are a Non-Racing or Official Member you cannot vote Tech issues.

I guess for next year at the bottom of the ballot should be lines with signature request and address.. Removes any question of what is wanted or required. Or send out the appropriate ballot to the person on the address so they only vote on the issues for their class and general rules.. At least folks are sending in the ballots so they are interested in their future

            Shawn,

I agree. Needs to be in a better format, and be more clear as to who can vote on what. And a signature line with a printed name line as well. Then there is no doubt. I also think there is no need for a SASE inside the ballot, the drivers can postmark the return ballot.

Given the increase in membership ( a ton) we really need to be clear as to who can vote, and on what. I was not sure on the carb rule for th 44 mercs. The class designation was either incorrect or misprinted. I knew exactly what the intention was, and knew I could vote, but will this be counted since I do not run the "4" class ?

I believe with the new process being talked about we will eliminate any doubts as we will not have too many chiefs and not enough indians. It will protect our heritage and founding fathers ideology and intentions within the organization. Be patient, this thing is growing at a much faster rate than anyone thought possible. I know it will never be 100% perfect for everyone, but it is and will be near perfect for everyone.

What a shame! Hold a national meeting, come up with proposals, and then enough ballots are not processed properly that results in them not being counted. If the number is so high that Art had to issue a reminder then we ought to consider redoing the ballot. This time put a line on each page for signature, Accurately annotate on the tech items as to which classes needed to have participation. Both of these items we not present on the ballot as initially distributed.

Voting percentages are already low enough without this happening. I would also like for the ballots be returned to a disinterested party for tally. We have lost the concept of a secret ballot. Jack

You guys need to read the the by-law rule concerning this. Bluesky racer posted the rule as its printed in the rule book earlier in this thread. It says that you must put your return address on the envelope period. If the way this is being handled is not to your satisfaction. I think maybe it is time for some of you to step up to the plate and suggest changes that are positive not just criticisms. As all of you should know by-law changes have to be done by a vote of the membership. That means nothing can change until the 2014 meeting and a vote of the membership. As you may be aware the office of Pres. & VP will have an election in 2014. I and Jeff can run for a second 2yr term. I cannot speak for Jeff. I would step aside if a qualified person would like be the Tech VP.

I hope you didn't take my comments as criticism. I meant only to suggest what we should do to salvage the vote and provide the method to do so. I had my return address on my envelope. I have also read the by-laws repeatedly. Jack

No offense taken. But until The by-law is changed it is what it is.

Jack, the reason that we need a return address on in or a signature, is to verify that the vote for tech changes are from drivers in that class, otherwise how can we determine whether or not the voting person is voting in a class that they actually race in??? out of 55 ballots that I have in my hand at this time , I have 10 members that voted on the tech, class rules, and these people don't drive. so far the we have over 60% of the ballots returned, good record, but there again a lot of these cant be in the class, structure because they didn't drive or are not drivers in that class

Seems like have a return address or a signature defeats the purpose of a "secret ballot" or are they not supposed to be a secret?

If the ballot is not signed or a return address. What would keep someone from copying the ballot and stuffing the the ballot box? Their are class specific proposals, that only drivers from that class are eligible to vote on. Only way to identify them.

You use a numbered ballot system. You know how many ballots you sent out, so for example if you send out 100 there are numbered 1 - 100. If you receive two of any number or if there is any number over 100 then ballots are not counted. As to class specific ballots, you can always mail them to the specific drivers. They would be numbered with a letter designating the class(es) they are eligible for. i.e. 25 C, E would be a ballot for someone who races c & e class. Just seems like people are more willing to vote what they truly believe if they can do so anonymously.

There are really no by-laws concerning how the ballots are to be formatted. Would appreciate a person or persons to take this project on in the coming months. I would take the proposals to the Race Commission for approval, and have a special election of the members to solve this issue before next years election and meeting.
