A great day dawned, less heat, a little breeze, quiet until noon, and then the 2nd day of USTS Race for Kids kicked off with some good action, no one hit the water and no one happier the the Nydahl family after Sunday's results and who could blame them as between Amy and Kurt, they took home half of today’s classes.
First up was the 125R with Dominic the Dominator taking the first two heats of racing in this class with Paulie Bosnich’s luck just was awful as the first two heats saw him sitting on the water, watching. Dom was flawless in the first heat, worked hard to get by Andrew Thirlby who did a great job this weekend for the 2nd heat. In the 3rd heat coming out of the bottom turn, he headed for the shoreline and it died. David Jones worked hard for a 1st, 2nd, 3rd in the three heats to take it home

Next class up started with a bang, literally as David Mitchell and Ben Thompson in that brand new TBR boat he started on in February came together in the start of 250H. Fortunately it was all wood, nothing else harmed. Ben has some work to do to get it back together for next week at Lake Alfred.
With the heavy hitters in Winter Haven it was worthy of a National event. Amy Nydahl went out and won the first two heats and finished 2nd in the 3rd heat to Chris Hellsten in a really donnybrook. It was thought that Chris may have jumped the gun, but a look at the tape, proved otherwise. Michael W. Schmidt clearly has speed again this year, but the gremlins just kept getting to he and Eric during the weekend.

500R
Can you say 2 cylinder Rossi with Tim Small behind the wheel. Tim was masterful with the 500R and took all three heats of racing with that motor. Wow was he fast as Jim Kirts and Mike Thirlby chased the rest of them down for the podium finishes. Tim had 1200 points, everyone from 2nd on down were at 619 points and down from there. A real mix masters of finishes for all the other drivers, some conk outs, others just finishing further back.

350R
Brian Payn ran off and hid for the first two heats with Jay Anderson with the constant drum beat of trying to catch him did a masterful job of keeping the boat upright when it hooked in the bottom corner and just about broached it. He kept in running and went on to finish the heat. Jay tracked down Rich Krier in the 3rd heat and got him by ½ of a boat length at the end, only to find out that Rich had jumped the gun.

175H had a lot of give and take in the 2 heats and overall, as I said the Nydahl family very happy as Kurt by 1 and ½ seconds on time beat Bob Cronin from Canadi, NH for the top spot. Jon Eldredge a deserving 3rd over all for him as this class showing some promise to fully develop in the near future.

In the 1100H it was all about AMY, what a driver she is as she absolutely smoked em with 3 heat wins, with Jim Kirts having a very nice weekend with 3 podium finishes for the weekend. It was fantastic to see Tom Adkins back in a boat again as for the first time in a boat in about 5 years and with a capsule boat on top of it, Tom did a great job and finished in the 3rd spot.

Our thanks to Gary Levin and Bill Hosler for all the hard work in putting the Race for Kids regatta on and to Pete Voss, we say thank you very much for your support.
Lake Alfred is next weekend, we expect a few more drivers to make next weekends race. Many drivers staying down for the weekend will be using various lakes for testing during the week to get ready for Lake Alfred.
My many thanks to Sue Sailer for all of she and her sister Denise and all the folks do to make this so smooth. Katie Bosnich, you must have walked a mile, make that 10 miles for the weekend, thank you.
Todd, you are simply the best!!!!!
Toward the end of next week, http://maxsportschannels.com/ will have the Winter Haven races up on the internet. Be sure to take a look. This is a website devoted to sports and they follow all kinds as an aggregator. Phil Liquori and his crew were out taping all weekend and I can’t wait to see what they have put together. Thanks Phil, Matt, and you too JOE….LOL
