Rockaway Beach, MO cancelled

Unfortunately the ODA has decided to cancel our event planned for June 2,3 at Rockaway Beach, MO. We are working on a replacement race for that weekend and should have some news on that shortly

?????Can you tell us what happened? That place is a real fixture for the ODA races. Kinda like NASCAR not going back to Bristol.

What happened

It is mostly internal politics going on with the city. The Chamber of Commerce just simply could not afford to put it on this year. The race was almost cancelled last year, due to issues with the water patrol, but it actually went right through the water patrol and the permit was issued with no problem. I think there is a good possibility that we will be back next year. The race we are working on is at Lake of the Ozarks and will be a great site if we can get it all worked out. The one positive to the race being cancelled is that the Chamber thinks it will open some eyes of the local businesses that are not members of the Chamber and they can all get back on the same page again.

I'm really sorry to hear that Rockaway is cancelled for this season. Had a great time officiating there last year. The new top cop of the water patrol was a top notch guy to work with. He made the weekend activities go extra smoothly. It's been many a season that Rockaway Beach was on the schedule. Will also miss the pizza celler! Jack

Despite any issues on the race course, this place was a blast ! Cabins within walking distance, Pizza place walking distance, all fixtures for this race. I will miss it this year, and hope it comes back next year !! I have only been there twice, and I love it. Such a unique venue, and something you don't often find at other race sites.

Hate to see Rockaway cancelled...always was a fun race site.

Good part was ya could get "hammered" at the Pizza Celler and just roll

yourself down the hill to the cabins. (at least that's what I've heard) !!

I will throw this out there as I always do , Lake DePue is always available. Just call the Village to use the park and the DNR to use the the lake. No fees , no permits required.
