I WOULD remind that if he runs the same outfit in C-mod where the weight is 440....that would make him 47 lbs. light...but I can't say nuthin...I was 29lbs light at centrailia in c run....oops!! looked good, though...

      Jacksboro Race

What a great race site the folks at Jacksboro have prepared for us. With time and their planned improvements it will be one of the best race sites on the NBRA schedule. I would like to thank the people who worked hard to put the race together and for their hard work at the race. Job well done! We would have done better in C MOD during the third heat if we used a better prop.

        failure to weigh

the What's up Doc? Team has promoted getting scales that are practical, and OBRA has scales that are quick to set up and easy to use. ODA has scales but they did not use them at their events. We have drivers in NBRA that are light, and at quincy, we were beat by some of them. Since we have no inspectors checking wt. or restrictors, we have created a rumor situation. What we need in NBRA is to weigh the first place driver and if they have a restrictor, it should be compared to a legal restrictor. There is no one given the job of being a inspector or a weigh master. Let's create rules that are followed and it is up the club to follow those rules. If the club does not then they can not have a sanction. At Jacksboro, no one weighed, but we had the scales there. We were not the lightest drivers, but the only one to use the scales.

          Csh

Joejohn, you can run a csh in a c mod race, and we won in Centraila last year with a csh in the cmod. But the rule book says you only have to have to weigh the amount of your class not the weight of the class you are stepping up into. You can recieve prizes, but not points. This year we ran a bigger boat and a cmod motor which all are heavier than a csh..Ray showed that a stocker on a short course can be competive.

            25mod wt. rule

If you are running a cmod in the 25mod class it is nearly impossible to be under wt. in that class. This class was born out of B-1 boats that were used for the heavier yamato motor. They increase the wt of the class by the difference between the yamato and the omc motor. So the wt. of the B-1 class was 365 and they made it thirty five lbs heavier. Most of use did not want to drive that class because the boats did not handle well at that short of boat and at those speeds. So the rule is not realistic. We should look at increaseing the wt. in that class. The wt. for a csh is 420lb and for the faster class 25mod it is 400. It doen't make since. What does it matter, if we don't wt.?

To all, it would be great to have all the inspectors, weighmasters, flagers, timers, and etc. but LSORA is a small club with a somewhat limited membership. Unfortunately, valuable members who could and would do these other duties are "forced" to pull the drivers duties of turn judge because not enough drivers will step forward. It seems that it is always the same folks that do so. Our sport is pretty much self supporting and under the circumstances, I think we do a respectable job. There is some and I'm being conservative here in stating some responsibility in self policing. People who are under weight know who they are and SO DO THE REST OF US. Why not make an attempt to comply with the rules ON YOUR OWN. Set the example to those who are being mentored and possibly a new and healthy trend will evolve. We as hobbiest should not have to depend on officials to point out when we are knowingly not complying with the published rules.

There is also more to our sport than simply driving a boat. There are duties that need to be done but some are riding the train and not helping pull the train, Yes, we need as many participants that we can get but there are also other things that some people could break themselves away and help out doing. Some may take these comments personnaly and probably should. If the shoe fits, try wearing it. Jack

Very well said Jack..Since our club is small I found out that I was not able to race at our race..To many fires to put out.. I am going to have someone else run my boat at our race next year..I see a lot of folks that always just show up, race and go home..That is the easy way out and at times I think it would be a lot easier for us too but it just dont feel right to me..

I have found the more you do for boat racing and the more involved you get into the politics the more frustrated you get so many just dont want to do it..I know there have been time when the crap that is involved in racing has made me consider quitting..It will probably get us sooner than later

                      First Race

For the city of Jacksboro this was its first sanctioned event, complete with insurance, participants, and the most important ingredient, volunteers. If anyone is out there listening, this sturcture is the future of our kind of boat racing. This town not made it possible, but would not say no to anything requested. (maybe I should have requested some go-go girls) The mayor of this town showed up, and I have to say, if you followed the NBRA websites threads with photos of then & now, it would amaze you to see it in person. This entire place was transformed into a boat racing arena. Complete with VIP bleachers, plain bleachers, and simply areas to stand for a good view of the races. All made possible because the town WANTS us there. Listen to this, there are places in the U.S. that WANT boat races. Find them, and work with them.

Thanks to all who put this event on. While the one vairible nobody can factor in is mother nature, it was still a fun race. Complete with thrills, spills, and some awesome tight racing. It was anyones win to be had. True grass roots boat racing styles, with well above the standard venues.

On a side note, I did get my first ever DQ for a driving infraction. It took 32 years to get one, so I guess it was another "first" for me. All is good though, the chopee and the chopor are still talking.

                        What jack said

I agree with you Jack. Ive been race director for many natl. and allot of races and we have three that OBRA will sponsor next year. As our volunteers get smaller the burden is place on a few people. I think the texas club is growing and is about the size of OBRA. In the past we had club races, but now it is impossible to put a race on without the drivers from other clubs, thus the new club is NBRA. Dudley suggested we pay someone to be the pit boss, inspector and wt. master all in one. We have depended on Jeff to help us out, but he is busy racing his own boats. I believe we can get a pit boss to weigh the first place driver, if you use the OBRA scales, and ck the restictor. That would take a minute or two. Not allot of time.

                          Jack, well said!

Dave, thanks for the vote of confidence.

Doc, run your race the way you want and let eveyone else run theirs the way they like. Also the National meeting is for addressing rules changes not this forum.

Alan Van Wheele, thanks for the kind words next year we'll make sure the rain gets turned off!

A big thank you to the all of racers this past weekend in Jacksboro for your hospitality and exciting boat racing action you brought to this small Texas town. We had the opportunity to meet several great people at this awesome event and you all made us feel welcome.

I want to personally extend a Thank You to Kevin and Linda McAfee for sharing their hospitality, time, information and rain/sun canopy with me, my dad and brother from S. Carolina. We enjoy old Mercury outboards in the AOMCI and learned so much this weekend spending this time with you both and the NBRA group.

We look forward to seeing all of you again next year in Jacksboro.

I totally agree with all above comments and would like to add that I, and I think Kevin, was just yankin yer chain a little, Doc. Just havin a little fun. I ran in Centralia light because I was not smart enough to weigh ahead of time and paid the price...I ran at Jacksboro with 30 lbs of lead...

I think if everyone raced boats just for fun they all would win but some put to much into the points chasing..

I must say most of the NBRA sites are lucky to have towns that really support them.. It is more fun for the competitors and the towns folks..Tell me how many bars ask a E mod to start their engine inside the place!!! Really

Now lets make plans for the next year at the national meeting
