  • Proposal for NBRA National Meeting (awards)

I'm going to throw this out here to see what everyone's opinion is on the subject.

I propose we do away with the way we award trophys for national championships, short course national championships, national records, and high point championships. Right now we give trophys or plaques for 1-3 in all of the classes. I think trophys and plaques are great, but I know what I do with mine, the majority of them wind up in a box in my garage, I only display the ones that I think are very important. I propose that instead of plaques or trophys we award a national championship jacket, and for repeat winners we award a patch to go on the jacket for each additional championship. I think this wi be more cost effective and also may help advertise the sport. Just think if your wearing your national championship jacket a lot of people are going to ask what it's for, which gives us more ways to talk up our sport. I also think that we should award the national high point winners for both two cylinder and four cylinder the numbers US1, that way they are recognized by everyone that they are the champion for that year.

    Jacket

I agree but I would give a Jacket to High Point each year, so you can give the next years jacket to your wife...We need all the help we can get. It could be a different color. Most of us have little room in our house for a tophy...My wife would not let me put one on the mantle, but Braxton has one there.....We need a artist to design one for NBRA, that is a patch...

Everyone will have a different thought on this. some of us race to be just driving, some are there just to show off equipment and get to say they race boats, some chase points , etc. A jacket is ok , but you can'e wear it in the summer and as I have won jackets in other sports , it just usually stays in the closet. Iam one of those who puts a lot of hard work into my equipment, plus money , plus long drives to races. Sooo Iam one who likes the plaques on my wall (not trophies) as it gives me something to race for. And I like the 1st, 2nd , 3rd places - some of us are not going to win very often but can be a consistant 2nd or 3rd. If were trying to change the awards - jackets might be ok , but your trading one for the other. As for me , I would vote to leave it as is - give plaques , not stand up trophies.

I like the US-1 idea. But instead of having it for 2 cylinder and 4 cylinder... I think the US-1 should go to the SINGLE driver with the most combined points at the end of the year. To make it a tad bit more special for that one person to have the priviledge to run the number.

The Jacket idea is cool too! But I'm game for either. Plagues/Trophys or Jacket works for me.

I dont like the idea of who gets the most points..Some of us "less young" folks can not run in ten different classes for the weekend..This system only rewards the young..It has to be fair for all..Award the US1 to each class winner for the year if you want

after thinking about it, if you wanted to do a jacket for the end of year champion, that would be fine -- but - I believe awarding the 2nd and 3rd overall goes hand in hand with growing our sport and keeping new racers. Let the clubs hoisting the short and long course championships decide what they do in awards for those events. wining a plaque for 2nd or 3rd may seem trival to some , but to others it may not be first , but it is something to show for great effort. we could go the metal route with gold , silver ,bronze for championship races and overall for the season wins a jacket but 2nd and third receive a metal/medallion - US-1 as far as I know has always been the high point champion - it was up to the driver if he wanted to change his boat numbers or not.

                My 2 Cents

Just a thought.... I think it's time for gold, silver and bronze champion rings. You could have them for different classes, including US1 and then high points for the various classes.

Rings wouldn't take up a lot of space like old trophies, you can wear them anywhere, they would make a super interesting conversation piece, they'd hold their value and you could pass them down to family members as a keepsake.

A NFL superbowl ring is the ultimate collectible. I understand that boat racing is not at that level, but why not?

                Regards,

                Paul

That is a good idea covers 1st , 2nd , and 3rd and cuts costs (or should)
The jacket could also be worked into this -

How about something folks use all the time..Coffee mugs or etched glasses for your favorite beverage!! You could do first second and third and they could actually be used when you got home

                      Trohpies

I like the trophies. Remember, only a few win a lot of them. For those that have a lot of them, you can always recycle these, and donate them to be refurbished and changed to use for another year. If the plaques are getting old to you, try getting larger trohies that barely fit anywhere. Really gives you something to work for.

I am not opposed to the jacket idea, but most of the races I attended this year did not require a jacket, or even a long sleeved shirt. I would wear it around home though.

                        TroPhys

Im not saying do away with the second and third place trophys. I just thought it would be a neat idea to try something else. In the ODA every driver gets a plaque with what their points and places listed on their plaque. I just thought that it would be neat to award the winners something that not just the people that go in your house would see. The ultimate award in the ODA is our cannon award which is huge and the year I had it I displayed it with pride right in the middle of my living room and it was a great conversation piece for everyone that came into my house.
